Our crews have restored power to 890,899 meters since #Harvey began, so now 99 percent of our customers have electricity. Be assured that we won’t stop until power is back on for everyone. We’re committed to keeping you safe and informed about our outage and restoration efforts.

What you need to know:

• IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: Please be alert for imposters posing as evacuation rescuers. Our employees will be accompanied by a first responder (fire or police). Our crews and contractors also wear uniforms and carry i.d. badges that they will show upon request. Call the Houston Police to report any suspicious activity.
  
  
• If you’re still without power, please know that we’re on it and Outage Tracker is a reliable source of details about them. Now, since crews are able to once again give more accurate restoration times, we’ll be including that in the message you get when you hover over your service address.


• Natural gas service is functioning normally, but we always put Safety First. Beginning Sept. 2, our crews and contract crews are conducting natural gas safety meter inspections . Expect to see technicians in neighborhoods throughout our area walking through yards to get to natural gas meters.
  
  
• Here's one less thing to worry about. In Texas counties recently declared by the governor to be a disaster area, we're waiving deposits for new accounts through Sept. 30 for those relocating due to #Harvey. And also, in those impacted counties through Sept. 30, we're waiving natural gas disconnections for non-payment.
  
  
• Our gas technicians are conducting safety walk-through inspections.  Natural gas service is functioning normally, but we always put Safety First.
• Expect to see trucks and technicians walking through yards to get to the gas meters -If you are not home and problems are identified, we may need to disconnect your gas service until we can complete repairs
• If we do disconnect gas service, we will leave a tag with additional instructions on your front door
• These crews will be both CenterPoint Energy employees and contractors working on our behalf and all will have CenterPoint Energy identification. Safety is our top priority and we want to assure you that we will do everything we can as quickly as we can to ensure safe and reliable gas service.
  
  
• Please remember that water and electricity don’t mix. Be especially mindful of downed lines that could be hidden in flood waters and debris and treat all downed lines as if they are energized or “live.” Boats being used in high water can expose you to danger from power lines at their normal height. Be aware and stay away.
  
  
• Repairing fences? Replanting trees? Call 811 before any digging is started – it’s the law. Striking buried utility lines can cause serious injury or death. Alert participating utility companies, such as electric, gas, cable and phone about planned digging so they can mark the appropriate location of their underground lines. Please be prepared for a longer than usual wait time during the next few weeks, and do not dig until the lines have been marked.
