Commercial-grade water softening and filtration for Minneapolis-St. Paul homes
Minnesota has some of the hardest water
in the nation, particularly in and around the Twin Cities.
CenterPoint Energy’s Home Service Plus® (HSP) sells both water softeners and water filtration systems for residential use. Available systems are compatible with both municipal water and private well water.
We also offer a complimentary water quality analysis to better understand how your water can be effectively treated. An HSP Comfort Advisor will review your test results with you and recommend appropriate solutions.

BrassMaster™ Water Softening Systems
BrassMaster Plus+™ Water Softening Systems
MultiMax™ Water Softening and Filtration Systems
-
Effective: Salt-based water softeners like these, which use ion exchange to reduce hardness, are
the most effective type of softeners.
-
Versatile: Our WCC water systems can be used with city or well water.
-
Easy service: Most serviceable parts are contained within a removable APM™ module.
-
Commercial grade: All WCC products are designed to be the robust residential options.
-
Extensively certified: The BrassMaster™, BrassMaster Plus+™ and MultiMax™ are all certified to NSF44, NSF61 and NSF372 standards for performance and safety.
How the BrassMaster™ system works
BrassMaster™ systems use ion exchange to reduce hardness. Water passes through a resin bed, where calcium and magnesium are exchanged for small amounts of sodium. The system regenerates periodically using salt to recharge the resin and rinse captured minerals to a drain.
Key components include:
- APM™ control valve for metered operation and easy maintenance
- Resin bed where ion exchange occurs
- Resin turbulator (in select models) to support iron reduction.

The benefits of soft water
Hard water contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium. By reducing those minerals, a water softener may:
- Decrease mineral buildup on faucets and showerheads
- Improve soap lathering
- Reduce spotting on dishes and glassware
- Prevent colored clothing from fading in the washer
- Help limit scale buildup inside plumbing and appliances
Some households report changes in how water feels on skin and hair after mineral levels are reduced. Results may vary based on water conditions and system settings.
The benefits of filtered water by MultiMax™
Even though 90% of Americans get their tap water from a regulated public water system, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates at least 1.1 million (1 in 300) people in the United States get sick every year from germs in drinking water.
Water filtration systems are designed to reduce contaminants including certain chemicals and to provide water that generally tastes, smells, and feels better.
The MultiMax™ system combines softening resin with Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) media to reduce chlorine and chloramine in treated municipal water supplies.
Water softener FAQs
How much does a water softener cost?
Pricing depends on water usage, desired features and system size. An HSP representative can provide pricing information after reviewing these details.
How long will a water softener last?
Tank lifespan varies by usage and water conditions. While tanks are designed for long-term use, control valves and other components may require replacement after approximately 10–15 years.
What size water softener do I need?
Sizing depends on the hardness level of your water and the flow rate, which is based primarily on the number of people in the home. An HSP representative can test your water hardness and help determine an appropriate system size.
Where will the water softener be installed?
Softeners can be installed in a number of places such as basements, garages, crawl spaces or utility rooms. However, it should be a location protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, with access to power and plumbing and ideally near the place water enters your house.
Is a filter included?
WCC’s BrassMaster™ softeners use ion exchange through cation resin to exchange hardness minerals for tiny amounts of sodium; there is no mechanical filtration. The MultiMax™, however, does include integral filtration media (Granular Activated Carbon) that can be conveniently replaced using the APM™ control valve.
