Evansville, Ind. – Jan. 7, 2025 – Today, CenterPoint Energy, contractors and mutual aid crews made significant restoration progress with more than 7,000 customers restored since 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. Approximately 22,000 customers remain out of power as of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. Crews continue to work safely and as quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers through trying conditions including downed trees, limbs, broken poles and power lines on the ground.
Winter Storm Blair has caused significant damage to CenterPoint's electric system, including more than 1,600 individual outage events. Crews have encountered hundreds of downed trees and limbs, scores of broken poles and significant wire damage, contributing to the complexity of restoration efforts.
“Our crews, along with mutual aid and contractor support, continue steady progress restoring power to customers. As of this evening, we've now restored approximately 65% of customers who were impacted by Winter Storm Blair," said Shane Bradford, CenterPoint's Vice President, Indiana Electric. “With now more than 1,000 personnel mobilizing to assist, we are safely and efficiently addressing remaining outages. We understand how challenging these conditions are for our customers and appreciate their patience as we work to restore service."

More than 1,000 personnel resources arrive onsite to work on restoration
In response to the impact of Winter Storm Blair, additional personnel have arrived in Evansville, augmenting CenterPoint's local workforce for a combined total of more than 1,000—more than ten times the company's typical daily workforce. This increase in resources is supplementing restoration efforts across the region.
Weather conditions remain hazardous
The current weather forecast indicates that extremely cold conditions will persist throughout the rest of the week, with little to no thawing expected. This ongoing cold weather underscores the importance of safe and efficient restoration efforts, and the company urges customers to make appropriate plans for themselves and their family members.
Warming centers and shelters open for residents
To assist local residents impacted by power outages and the extreme winter conditions, CenterPoint is collaborating with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, the Catholic Diocese of Evansville, the City of Evansville and the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross Indiana Region to establish warming centers and overnight shelters in key locations across the community. These centers will provide bottled water, snacks and volunteer assistance to residents in need.
Staged restoration process
CenterPoint prioritizes restoring power to facilities critical for safety, health, and welfare, such as hospitals, water treatment plants and public service facilities. Once these critical needs are addressed, crews will focus on restoring power to the largest number of customers first, continuing to work until all customers are restored.
CenterPoint reminds customers if they have experienced damage to the weatherhead – the point of entry from the service drop to the home – a licensed electrician will need to make necessary repairs before power can be safely restored.
Power Alert Service® enrollment is encouraged
CenterPoint customers are encouraged to enroll in the company's Power Alert Service® to receive real-time outage updates, estimated restoration times, and other important notifications via phone call, text, or email. This service helps customers stay informed and prepared during power restoration efforts.
Continued updates
CenterPoint will continue to provide multiple updates each day until all customers have their power fully restored. Customers are encouraged to follow the company on social media platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) for the latest information.
