If you've lost power for any length of time due to severe weather such as a hurricane or other weather disruptions like an ice storm, you can understand the importance of backup power generation fueled by reliable natural gas. The increasing demands of home offices, security systems, food refrigeration, HVAC systems, water wells, etc., have moved backup power to the forefront of many homeowners' minds. Because the consequences of a power outage can be significant, natural gas standby generators have become more common in residential neighborhoods and surrounding businesses.
Stay Calm Cool and Connected
Imagine a typical sweltering summer evening in your neighborhood. Now imagine that same evening without lights, air conditioning or your favorite electronic devices. You’re getting hot and bothered and it’s not just because the heat and humidity in your home is rapidly increasing.
Why work up a sweat over an outage when a natural gas generator can power up your entire home, including your air conditioner? And with the convenience of automatic start and stop, you’ll always know the lights are on at your home, whether you’re across the street or across the country.
Stop fretting about spoiled food or unwelcome mold and mildew. Your family and friends will stay happily entertained and you may just become the most popular person on the block when neighbors see that you still have power. And if you have a home office, you’re still in business.
A natural gas standby home generator system consists of four major components:
It’s installed outside your house (like an A/C unit) and turns on automatically during an outage — whether you’re home or away.
The generator system operation is very simple.
Step #1 - Before Power Goes Out
The automatic transfer switch (ATS) monitors the incoming electricity 24/7 from your power utility company. The transfer switch is typically located close to your electric meter and home.
Step#2 - The Power Goes Out
During a power outage, the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) signals the generator to start. In seconds, the ATS transfers your home’s power from your utility to your generator.
Step#3 - Your Natural Gas Generator Powers Your Home
Your generator then supplies your home with electricity until the utility power is restored. Once power is restored, your generator seamlessly shuts off. You don’t lift a finger!
In , you have the power to choose a natural gas supplier.
