When is it Time to Replace Your Water Heater?
It can be hard to know when to proactively replace equipment such as your water heater. Home Service Plus is here to help you understand when you should stop repairing your equipment and replace your water heater with the best model for your home.
- The water heater is over 8 years old – The average lifespan of a water heater is between 8-12 years. If your water heater is over 8 years old, don’t wait until it breaks to replace it. Proactively replacing an older unit means you can avoid an unexpected breakdown and the potential of being without hot water for an extended period of time.
- Less hot water – Buildup of various sediment in your water heater can happen over time and cause problems. First, your water could take longer to heat up, and second, the buildup could remove some of your heater’s capacity. Sediment buildup in your water heater could also come in the form of rumbling or other noises, or inefficient draining by your drain valve. If you notice one or more of these issues, you should consider replacing your water heater.
- Rust on the tank – Rust indicates the wearing down of a tank, so if your tank is rusty, be proactive and upgrade your water heater before any major leaks happen.
- Leaks – Water heater leaks cannot be repaired, and leaks could cause costly damage to your home. If your water heater is leaking, turn the unit off immediately and contact HSP for more information on purchasing your new unit. We remove the old water heater with all new installations.
If your unit has one or more of these problems, consider contacting HSP for more information on replacing your old equipment. HSP carries top brands of water heaters to best meet your needs.
