Replace your existing water heater before it leaks or when you upgrade your aging heating system with a high-efficiency model.​

Eligible Tank Water Heaters ​

TIP: When shopping for a new water heater, be sure to look first at a model’s usage bin level, then the efficiency rating to ensure the model qualifies for a rebate. 

 If not sure where to find this information, please ask your plumber or store representative.


Getting started 

  • If you are purchasing a TANK water heater review our eligible tank water heater resource guide above, to be familiar with the brands and models that qualify for a rebate.
  • Work with the dealer, plumber, or retailer of your choice to purchase and install the best high efficiency natural gas water heater for your home between January 1 – December 31, 2025.
  • This rebate offer is only available for MINNESOTA residential heating customers who receive natural gas service from CenterPoint Energy.

Note: For rebate to apply, the new equipment must be listed and Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) or thermal efficiency verified on the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) or ENERGY STAR@ websites.​

​After installation and before you complete a rebate application 


For equipment purchased and installed by a dealer/plumber

Step 1: Contact your dealer first 

  • Contact the dealer that installed your water heater to inquire if their company is submitting the rebate on your behalf, on CenterPoint Energy’s dealer-only online rebate form. Customers receive their rebate faster when the dealer submits the rebate online.
  • Provide your email address to the dealer if you want to receive system generated emails about the status of your rebate submission. 

Step 1A: Paper application​

  • Complete a paper application if the dealer does not submit the rebate on your behalf. Enter your email address if you want system generated emails about the status of your rebate submission. 
  • Print out the completed application and obtain required signatures. 
  • Confirm that the invoice includes the required information: 
    • The details of the water heater that was purchased, including the brand, complete model number and the dealer information. The invoice must match the information on the application. A proposal or estimate are not acceptable forms for proof of purchase. Additional information may be requested from CenterPoint Energy
    • IMPORTANT: Obtain a revised invoice if it doesn’t contain all the required information.

For equipment purchased from a retailer

Step 1: Collect information needed for rebate submission

  • If you purchased and installed a TANK water heater review the eligible tank water heater resource guide to ensure your water heater model qualifies for the rebate. 
  • Confirm that the retailer receipt/invoice includes the required information: 
    • The receipt must describe the water heater that was purchased, including the retailer information. The invoice must match the information on the application. A packing list or recall invoice are not acceptable forms for proof of purchase. 
    • ​IMPORTANT: Obtain a revised invoice if it does not contain all the required information. 

Step 1A: Paper application 

  • Complete a paper application. 
  • Print out the completed application and sign the application.

Step 2: Rebate Processing 

  • Rebate application must be submitted in the same calendar year that the equipment was installed. See Terms & Conditions for complete information about the rebate deadline. 
  • From the time that CenterPoint Energy receives the completed rebate application please allow up to 10 weeks for rebate to be processed.
