CenterPoint Energy Resources Corp. (“CERC”), a subsidiary of CenterPoint Energy, Inc., administers the application of customer payments in accordance with internal policies and Minnesota‑specific business rules. The cash posting sequence outlined below is an internal business process and ensures customer payments are automatically posted to any commodity installment plans or past due amounts, before a payment is applied to non-commodity.
A customer’s payment is applied according to the following standardized Minnesota sequence:
- Gas installment plan balances
- Gas arrears not included in an installment plan
- Home Service Plus® (HSP) arrears
- Current gas charges
- Current HSP charges
A customer’s decision to enroll in, modify, or decline participation in any optional program—including Home Service Plus®—does not affect how regulated utility charges are billed or delivered by CenterPoint Energy or any of its regulated utility subsidiaries. If a customer is seeking to reallocate their payment that has been applied to their account, they must contact CenterPoint Energy and ask for the reallocation to occur.
