Customer Assistance Fund (CAF)

The Customer Assistance Fund (CAF)* provides eligible customers with financial assistance to help manage their energy bills during the winter heating and summer cooling seasons. Administered in partnership with The Salvation Army, the program offers an easy and accessible application process. CAF was designed to offer a helping hand to families and individuals who typically wouldn’t qualify for public assistance.

Eligibility

Summer: Southwestern Indiana electric customers who need help with cooling bills
Winter: Indiana and Ohio customers who need help with heating bills

CAF is available to CenterPoint Energy customers who may fall into the income guidelines listed in the chart, which will include more customers than most federal assistance programs.

Please note: A customer can receive funding once during the calendar year (January 1 to December 31). Customers who already received assistance in 2025 are ineligible until the new funding year begins in 2026.

More payment assistance options

The Fund complements existing CenterPoint bill management tools, such as due extensions, payment arrangements and Budget Billing. Customers eligible for state and federal low-income assistance programs are encouraged to apply for those resources first before seeking assistance from the CAF.
