Houston – March 24, 2021 – CenterPoint Energy, Inc. today announced that through its charitable foundation, and in partnership with Galveston County Judge Mark Henry and Galveston Mayor Craig Brown, it is donating $100,000 to three Galveston area nonprofits responding to community needs after the recent winter storm.
"Many residents in Galveston County are still making repairs to their homes due to the damage caused by the recent winter storm," said County Judge Henry. "These three non-profits are well-deserving recipients who have been actively assisting families recover across Galveston County."
Mayor Brown said, "The City is very appreciative of CenterPoint Energy's desire to support our community by their generous donations to these important non-profits. A strong partnership between the City and CenterPoint is vital, now and in the future, for the well-being of our entire community."

We have been part of this community for more than 150 years and we are proud to support our neighbors in the aftermath of this historic winter weather event."
Recipients of the CenterPoint Energy Foundation grants and their amounts are:
- 4B Disaster Response is a network of faith communities formed after Hurricane Harvey to respond to disasters with repair and restoration through supplies and volunteers. The nonprofit will receive $50,000 to support needs in a service territory described as the "4B's": Beltway to the Beach and Brazoria County to the Bay.
- Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston provides shelter and resources to victims of family violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. RCCGC will receive $25,000 to support its mission which has been exacerbated by the severe weather event.
- Family Service Center of Galveston County will receive $25,000 to further support individuals and families in Galveston, Liberty and Chambers counties with mental health, education, and counseling services. The severe weather event happening on top of the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified needs in this community.
At the peak of the severe winter weather event and power generation shortfall, approximately 1.4 million total customers were impacted across CenterPoint Energy's 5,000-square-mile Houston Electric service territory. Because of the power generation shortfall, CenterPoint Energy, which does not generate electricity, was ordered by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to suspend electric service to a portion of its customers. Once power became available, the company was ready to deliver it and restored approximately 1.3 million electric customers in a 24-hour period.
