Hillje-Blu Lacy Transmission Improvement Project

Building a More Resilient, Reliable & Affordable Energy Future

CenterPoint Energy is committed to building a more resilient, reliable and affordable energy future for all of our customers, communities, local industries and small businesses. The Hillje-Blu Lacy Transmission Improvement Project is part of a joint initiative between CenterPoint Energy and AEP Texas to strengthen and modernize the electric grid, mitigate the effects of more powerful storms and extreme weather, and meet the area’s growing energy and economic needs.

As part of this effort, we are investing in ~155 miles of brand new, storm-resilient transmission lines between Wharton and Nueces counties and two new substations.

Key Benefits for Local Communities

Providing local benefits for your community is an important priority for all of us at CenterPoint Energy. Working together, we are determined to build a more resilient and reliable energy future that meets the energy demands of tomorrow while also prioritizing what matters most to our local communities, including:

  • Improving storm resiliency by building stronger energy grid infrastructure capable of withstanding extreme weather.
  • Enhancing reliability to reduce the frequency and impact of outages on local property owners.
  • Increasing energy capacity to support current and future local economic growth.
  • Prioritizing affordability and saving customers $100M+ each year as local economies expand and share the costs of electric resiliency and reliability improvements.
  • Providing over $10 million dollars in new tax revenue for local communities vital for schools and other public services.
  • Creating ~1,400 new Texas jobs by recruiting and hiring from the surrounding area to support construction.
  • Empowering the local economy by partnering with local vendors and small businesses throughout construction.

View Our Project Map

The below map includes electric transmission line location options that may be combined into several potential route options, but only one route will be constructed. No final route has been selected, and no final decision will be made by the Public Utility Commission of Texas without considering local public input.

We Want Your Input

As part of our shared goal of building a better energy future for you and your neighbors, we want to hear from you and gain local knowledge from other community members. If you are a property owner, your feedback will help us shape this electric improvement project to best serve your community, including helping to determine the best possible transmission line routes.

We look forward to working closely with local property owners and community members, answering your questions and listening to local feedback every step of the way. We want you to help inform our route planning process to build a more reliable, resilient energy future. Please review the potential electric transmission line location options on the map above and share your feedback by joining us at one of our upcoming community events or completing our feedback form on this vital resiliency and reliability project.
