CenterPoint Energy has installed more than 2. 3 million smart meters across Houston and has begun developing an Intelligent Grid. Smart meters automate meter reading and service connection and disconnection as well as give consumers more frequent, detailed information on their electricity use. The Intelligent Grid is designed to monitor grid health and reduce the number of power outages and shorten their length, among other benefits.
