Delivering Reliable Power
You depend on your electricity every day and probably don’t think about it unless there’s a problem. But it’s always our concern at CenterPoint Energy, as teams work 24/7 to ensure reliability of your electric service.
Factors Affecting Reliability
CenterPoint Energy’s control over each factor may vary greatly. For example, we have more control over how we build/
strengthen our grid than the number of outages caused by severe storms and lightning.
Reliability Starts at Planning
Although we can’t prevent severe storms and hurricanes, our employees execute quick, organized and effective responses. The
Electric Outage Center shares specifics about our carefully planned response when such issues arise.
If you have sensitive electronic equipment installed in your business, consider the use of protective equipment such as:
- Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS): Provides backup power when the primary source is not available.
-
Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor (TVSS): Provides protection against overvoltage, also known as voltage swells.
-
Harmonic Filters: Used to decrease voltage distortion and for power factor correction.
-
Constant Voltage Transformer: May be used to control voltage variations.
- Back-up Generator: Provides back up power when the primary source is not available
