Over the past century, home builders have gained access to more energy options for their projects, but natural gas is still arguably the most reliable and cost-effective energy source for the new homes you build.
Benefits of building-in natural gas
Strong demand
Natural gas remains popular throughout the country, which is why homebuilders have continued to include it in their projects. On a national average, 54% selected natural gas as the main heating fuel in the homes they completed, compared to 44% for electricity, according to the
Census Bureau 2021 Survey of Construction (SOC).
Homes sell faster
According to a study by the National Association of Home Builders entitled “Natural Gas in New Homes – A Survey of Single-Family Homebuilders” in September 2021, homes with natural gas built in sell for about 22% higher than similar homes without it.
The survey also reflects home buyer preferences for high efficiency natural gas furnaces and water heaters, as well as convenient home amenities such as gas fireplace inserts and natural gas barbecue grills outside.
More features and design flexibility
Natural gas appliances and features are widely available, both in manufacturers’ inventories and in existence on the market.
This gives you as the builder the freedom to design and build to your desired specifications.
