Indiana Electric: New itemized bill format
For greater transparency, Indiana Electric customers will now see the breakdown of existing charges that make up their total bill.
Electric bills will now include separate line items for:
Customer Facilities Charge – A minimum fixed charge. This helps minimize variability in bills and recover costs that do not vary with consumption.
Variable Base Charge – Based on amount of kWh consumed by a customer during the billing cycle. This helps to pay for the electrical infrastructure and generation to serve customers and recovers costs associated with workforce, equipment, etc.
Fuel Charges – Includes the total cost of fuels used to generate electricity, such as natural gas, coal, and certain renewable energy purchases. This charge may vary depending on fuel prices and how much electricity you use.
Adjustments – These charges or credits help recover specific costs that aren’t included in base rates. They may be associated with investments related to renewable generation (i.e. solar projects), energy efficiency programs or equipment required by federally mandated environmental regulations.
