LED streetlights
Save money, boost visibility and enjoy cleaner air
CenterPoint Energy partners with a growing list of Texas communities, converting traditional lighting to LED (light-emitting diode) streetlights. With our five-year conversion project, we will be installing LED lights throughout the Greater Houston area.
Houston LED Conversion Project
CenterPoint Energy has converted approximately 400,000 high-pressure sodium streetlamps to LED lamps in Greater Houston. Over the next five years, we will replace approximately 189,000 additional streetlamps to LED. These bulbs not only last longer and perform better, but they also help reduce customer bills, produce approximately 40% less energy, and will reduce electricity consumption by about 70 million kilowatt hours annually. This is enough to power 5,400 local homes for one year! The LED conversion project is a key part of Houston’s air quality and greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.
The City of Houston and CenterPoint Energy have long been regarded as national leaders in energy efficiency and technology, but this massive project is being used as an example, worldwide. Through energy efficiency programs and support of partnerships like this, we’re committed to promoting safe, reliable, affordable, efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy.
