CenterPoint Energy has been partnering with a select group of natural gas suppliers to provide our Ohio customers with natural gas choices. You have the option to choose from one of our approved natural gas suppliers and we will deliver that natural gas to you! You can remain with a Standard Choice Offer (SCO) supplier, but making your own choice may give you more appealing pricing options.

The Ohio Choice Natural Gas program allows customers to choose their natural gas supplier instead of automatically receiving gas from their local utility company. Here's how it works:

When rates go up, it's important to understand that:
Rate increases may occur because the supplier's portion has increased. This happens due to:
Your bill combines both charges, so it can sometimes look like "the utility" is raising rates when actually could be the supplier portion that has increased. This year’s retail price adjustment will decrease from $0.220 to $0.165 per CCF (one hundred cubic feet). This adjustment is added to the monthly settlement price of natural gas to determine your total gas supply rate. This rate is a pass-through rate and CenterPoint Energy does not profit off of this rate.
You will see this updated rate reflected on your bill beginning in April 2026. Based on average household usage, we estimate this change will impact your annual bill by approximately $70 for the gas commodity portion. The actual impact on your total bill will vary based on your usage and the monthly settlement price of natural gas.

A Standard Choice Supplier (SCO) is a default supplier. If you have chosen a supplier and wish to switch to an SCO supplier, you must cancel or wait for your Choice supplier contract to expire, and you will be randomly defaulted to one of these SCO suppliers.
