Natural gas main replacements

In the weeks of May 31 and June 7, a crew from Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas mains on Maplewood Drive, Shavers Lane and Maple Ridge Road. They will connect the new mains to the existing intersecting mains. They anticipate finishing the main replacements by June 25, pending weather.

The crews are installing the new mains in the road three feet away from the existing mains. This will be away from the residents’ properties and driveways. Although customers can mark their privately-installed utilities, such as sprinkler systems or dog fences, the crews anticipate that the natural gas main replacements will not interfere with the private utilities. If customers mark their private utilities, they can do so with spray paint, utility flags, or other items. For sprinklers, marking the heads, rather than the lines, is necessary.

Service line connections and inside-to-outside meter moves

A separate crew from Michels Corporation is connecting the natural gas service lines to the new mains. The customer will receive a CenterPoint Energy postcard in the mail typically within one or two weeks prior to the day when the Michels Corporation crews will perform the work. The crews will have CenterPoint Energy-authorized photo IDs stating that they are employees of Michels Corporation.

After the customer receives the postcard, the foreman will arrive at the customer’s house to schedule an appointment that typically meets with the customer’s schedule. If the customer isn’t home when he arrives, he will leave a door tag with his contact information to schedule an appointment with him.

Customers are advised to set aside a two- to four-hour time frame for the inside-to-outside gas meter move. The foreman will access the natural gas meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated.

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have replaced the project’s natural gas mains on Cedar Ridge Road and Spirit Knob Road. This week, the crews will replace the main on Maplewood Circle. In the week of May 24, the crews will replace the main on Gale Road and on Maplewood Road from Gale Road to Maplewood Circle. After that, they’ll replace the main on Woolsey Lane, Breezy Point Road, Stone Arch Road, and Maple Hill Road. The final roads to have the main replacement are Maplewood Road and Shavers Lane in the project’s southern area.

Project Description

Beginning May 3 and lasting into late summer of 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Woodland along the following streets: Spirit Knob Road; Cedar Ridge Road; Maplewood Circle E.; Marshland Road; Maplewood Road from Breezy Point Road to Maple Ridge Road and from Maplewood Circle E. to Spirit Knob Road; Gale Road south of Maplewood Circle W.; Shavers Lane east of Maplewood Road; Woolsey Lane and Breezy Heights Road north of Breezy Point Road; Maple Hill Road just west of County Road 101; and Stone Arch Road just west of McKenzie Point Road.

While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. During this time, lane or parking closures may occur.

Traffic Impacts

The following closures will happen in segments rather than all at once. On Maplewood Road from Breezy Point Road to Maple Ridge Road and on Breezy Point Road from Woolsey Lane to Breezy Heights Road, the crews will have a lane shift with flaggers to maintain two-way traffic. On Maplewood Circle W. from Maplewood Circle E. to Spirit Knob Road and on Maplewood Circle E. from Marshland Road to Maplewood Circle W., the crews will close the road to through traffic. Local residents will have access. The crews will be on site to assist residents with access.
