From Thursday, June 2 to Friday, June 3, the crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will close Webster Avenue S. at 36th Street W. The existing closure will remain in the southern half of the intersection of Wooddale Avenue and 36th Street W. This will allow the crew to replace the large-diameter natural gas steel main.

This week, Michels Corporation will set up two separate closures. Depending on the weather, the crew plans to close westbound 36th Street W. at Webster Avenue on either Wednesday, May 25 or Thursday, May 26. Then the crew plans to close eastbound 36th Street W. from Xenwood to Webster Avenues on Thursday, May 26 or Friday, May 27. Each closure will last for one day. They will not happen on the same day. During this time, detour signs will lead through traffic to Highway 7 and Beltline Boulevard or Highway 100.


Beginning on Wednesday, June 1, the crew will close the southern half of the intersection of Wooddale Avenue and 36th Street W. During this time, two-way traffic will be open on 36th Street W. Detour signs will lead through traffic to Highway 7 and Highway 100. The crosswalk closures at this intersection will alternate to remain open to pedestrian access.

From Monday, May 16 to Friday, May 20, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will close the southern lanes of Xenwood Avenue at 36th Street W. to replace the project’s second of two natural gas mains. During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained on 36th Street W. Through traffic will be detoured west on 36th Street W. and south on Wooddale Avenue. Traffic to 5619 and 5605 36th Street W. will have access to their parking lot through Yosemite Avenue heading south and the alleyway heading east.


The crew has finished replacing the project’s first natural gas main. This is the small-diameter plastic main. The roads where the plastic main has been replaced with no further work to be done have been restored with asphalt.


The crew is working on the east side of Wooddale Avenue, heading toward Yosemite Avenue and planning to work to Xenwood Avenue this week. The crew put temporary blacktop on Alabama Avenue and opened it for traffic. Eastbound traffic is closed at Railroad Avenue for restoration.


CenterPoint Energy is continuing to coordinate with the City of St. Louis Park, Xcel Energy and USI regarding their projects.

From Monday, May 16 to Friday, May 20, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will close the southern lanes of Xenwood Avenue at 36th Street W. During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained on 36th Street W. Through traffic will be detoured west on 36th Street W. and south on Wooddale Avenue. Traffic to 5619 and 5605 36th Street W. will have access to their parking lot through Yosemite Avenue heading south and the alleyway heading east.

On Friday, April 15, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin replacing the first of the project’s two natural gas mains. In the week of April 18, they will replace the main under the south sidewalk of 36th Street W. between Alabama Avenue S. and Wooddale Avenue, closing one lane of traffic. In the week of April 25, they will replace the main on the north side of 36th Street W. from Yosemite to Webster Avenues S.


In the weeks of April 18 and 25, the crew will also connect the service lines to the new plastic main.


In the week of May 2, another Michels Corporation crew will begin replacing the project’s second natural gas main. From May 2 into June, they will be located along the south side of 36th Street W., working from Alabama to Webster Avenues S. During most of this work, lane closures will occur for one or more blocks at a time.


In mid- or late May, the crew will have closures on Wooddale Avenue at 36th Street W. During this time, eastbound will be closed for one business day. On another business day, westbound will be closed. Any other changes will be noted on our website.


In early June, Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, plans to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of St. Louis Park’s project.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

From Monday, April 11 into late May or early June 2022, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in St. Louis Park along 36th Street W. from Alabama to Webster Avenues S.


While Michels Corporation will replace two natural gas mains, connect natural gas service lines to the first new main, and move any inside meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of St. Louis Park’s 36th Street and Wooddale Avenue Improvements project.


For most of the project’s duration, two-way traffic will be maintained on 36th Street W., and the side streets will remain open along 36th Street W. During this time, lane and parking restrictions will occur. For one business day in the middle or end of May, the crews will close westbound traffic on 36th Street W. and will detour traffic. For another business day in the middle or end of May, the crews will close eastbound traffic on 36th Street W. and will detour traffic.


Access to parking lots and driveways will remain open. The crews will work with businesses on maintaining access.
