Where, when, and why is CenterPoint Energy performing construction?

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy Energy’s authorized contractor, will be replacing an existing natural gas distribution main with modern materials in North Mankato from the week of June 17 to early August 2019. Project construction will occur along Lee Blvd. between Tower Blvd. and Hoover Dr.; Hoover Dr. between Lee Blvd. and Regency Ct.; north of the Hoover Elementary School between Regency Ct. and Clare Dr.; and Roe Crest Dr. between Clare Dr. and just north of Marie Ln. Work will occur in segments rather than all at once.

Construction will happen in two phases: Phase 1 consists of installing the natural gas distribution main. Phase 2 is the restoration of disturbed areas affected by our work outside the city construction zone. This may consist of lawn restoration and sidewalk or street restoration as work dictates. Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy Energy’s authorized contractor, will be restoring the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s construction. Any changes in the schedule may be due to weather, the crews’ progress, the availability of materials, and agreements between CenterPoint Energy and the city.

Lane restrictions will be anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Since the crews will be open-trenching the natural gas main, they will be closing sections of the affected roads at a time to through traffic. Residents and businesses can access their properties. Parking and pedestrian traffic will be prohibited in full closure areas. Detour signs will be on site.
