​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Natural Gas Line Upgrades in Minnetonka - Project Updates

The past week the crew put in service the 12” main and completed the abandonments. Jake Larsons crew has mobilized offsite. A separate crew will be coming in next week to remove the drips along Minnetonka blvd. and install an insulator at Williston rd and Minnetonka drive.

Traffic control along Minnetonka Blvd has been opened to 2way traffic. Tonkawood Rd will be fully open Saturday 9/27/25 in the am. Paving along Williston will be started Wednesday 10/1/25.

On Tuesday 9/2/25 through Wednesday 9/3/25 the crew will be testing the newly installed 12” steel along Minnetonka Blvd. and Williston Rd. After completion of the test on Wednesday 9/3/25 the crew will blow down the test which will be a louder noise for approximately 1 hour this will occur at the intersection of Minnetonka Blvd. and Tonkawood. On Thursday 9/4/25 The newly installed 12” steel will be put in service. During this time there will be purging occurring at the intersection of Williston Rd. and Minnetonka Blvd. which will have a smell of natural gas and a louder blowing sound, and this is all normal and no cause for concern.

Thursday 9/4/25 the intersection of Tonkawood rd. and Minnetonka Blvd will have a closure. Minnetonka Blvd will be completely open for eastbound and westbound traffic. There will be no access to Tonkawood rd. from Minnetonka Blvd. Tonkawood Rd. will be closed for approximately 200 feet south of Minnetonka Blvd. to the Intersection. There will be no access to Minnetonka Blvd. from Tonkawood. Rd.

For the week of 8/25/25 the Crew will be cleaning the newly installed 12” steel along Minnetonka Blvd and Williston Rd. Also, the crew will be finish tieing in the 12” steel at the Intersection of Williston Rd. and Minnetonka Drive and prepping for Air test. The City of Minnetonka Pump station along Williston rd. has a temporary access created for access to the station.

For the week of 8/11/25 the crew be working in the intersection of Williston Rd. and Minnetonka Blvd. Flaggers will not be used for the time being. Traffic control will be utilizing the Traffic lights. On Monday 8/11/25 The southwest Crosswalk / Bike path at Williston Road and Minnetonka will be rerouted to protect pedestrians. There will be Pedestrian gates to guide people to the correct crossing.

For the week of 7/25/25 the crew plans on installing 300 feet of 12”. They will not be working Saturday due to Tour de Tonka. Also Thursday and Friday the paving company will be paving from west Sussex drive to East Sussex Drive. On Thursday there will be a traffic control switch so the Median at Williston rd. can be filled and paved.

Installation of modern gas main continues to progress along Minnetonka Boulevard. Affected intersections and driveways continue to receive temporary blacktop patches. Patches will be replaced with permanent restoration later in the project.

The East Intersection of Minnetonka Blvd and Sussex Drive is now open.

Paving will be completed of the eastbound lane of Minnetonka Blvd from Tonkawood to the east Intersection of Sussex Drive. Once paving is complete Restoration for Black Dirt and seed will come in to restore.

The intersection of Minnetonka Boulevard and Sussex Drive is expected to be open for through traffic early this week.

Main installation continues along Minnetonka Boulevard. Beginning Tuesday, June 10, a closure at the west side of the Minnetonka Boulevard and Sussex Drive intersection will begin. The closure will be in place for one week while pipe is installed.

The steel main crew continues to install sections of modern pipe. Work will take place this week from Tuesday, May 27, through Saturday, May 31.

Installation of modern gas main within the scope of this project is complete. An additional crew will arrive on site to begin replacing and connecting service lines to the new main and moving inside meters outside.

The utility crew continues to install large diameter steel pipe, headed east along Minnetonka Boulevard. Traffic control, with flaggers present, remains in place as work continues.

Construction in Minnetonka, along Carleton Road and Arlington Drive will begin this week. Equipment is moving on sight for the early part of the week, with main installation beginning by Friday, May 16.

At this time, we expect about 3 weeks of natural gas main construction.

Efforts to modernize the natural gas infrastructure along Minnetonka Boulevard are expected to begin Monday, May 12. Construction will begin on the east side of Tonkawood Road, and will move towards the east side of the construction zone.

A lane shift will be present for the duration of work on the north side of Minnetonka Boulevard. Daily, between 9AM and 3PM, there will be traffic flaggers onsite to aid in directing cars through the lane shift.

For several months this summer, CenterPoint Energy will replace natural gas infrastructure in multiple locations across Minnetonka. Updates regarding the utility crew's location, traffic impacts and other details will be posted here regularly.

Before construction begins, an authorized contractor will be in the area to locate sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. This is an important safety measure CenterPoint is required to take. It is possible a technician performing this work will need to access your home to locate sewer lines. Ask to see CenterPoint Energy identification before letting anyone in your home.
