CenterPoint Energy hosted a public meeting on Jan. 31

Thank you to all who attended our January 31 meeting. CenterPoint Energy hosted a public meeting at City Hall with representatives from the City of Savage and answered questions about the project. If you have questions, contact one of our resources in the right column of this web page.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

Beginning on Monday, April 10, 2023, Phase I of a multi-year project will begin to upgrade and consolidate two existing natural gas steel mains into one pipeline that currently runs east to west from the Burnsville Mall to western Shakopee. Authorized contractors plan to work in Savage along South Park Drive from Dakota Avenue to Joppa Avenue South installing a large-diameter natural gas steel main and another contractor will be restoring the areas affected by the natural gas work. This work is being done to better serve the growing area.

One of the existing lines is currently located in an easement within residents’ backyards. To minimize disruption and ease in accessibility, CenterPoint Energy will have the new steel main installed within the public right-of-way.

During construction, South Park Drive will remain open as the pipe will be replaced under the south sidewalk of South Park Drive. The crew will work with residents on maintaining access to their driveways. Residents’ natural gas service will not be interrupted during this time.

The restoration contractor will restore the areas affected by the natural gas work outside the limits of the City of Savage’s 2023 Street Improvement Project. Restoration will include repairs to damaged irrigation systems, replacement of sidewalk panels, and boulevard and lawn repairs consisting of 6” of topsoil and sod. We request the help of owners with sod watering.

Prior to construction, underground public utilities will be located. You may see spray paint markings and/or utility flags with different colors for different utilities. If you have installed any lines on your property, such as sprinklers or dog fences, we ask that you mark them with materials that are convenient to you. Marking the sprinkler heads is sufficient.

We appreciate your patience, as we upgrade our natural gas lines, ensuring system reliability for years to come. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to work as efficiently as we can. For any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you very much!
