Minneapolis - Loring Park - Project Updates

CenterPoint Energy and Michels Corp are installing 2” and 4” plastic main gas line on the north side of Yale Pl from Willow St to 12th St S in conjunction with a city paving project. As the crew works west to east toward 12 St S, they will start installing gas main on the west side of Spruce Pl heading north from Yale Pl to Harmon Pl.

Traffic impacts include a road closure from Willow St to 13 St S. The sidewalk on the north side will also be closed to pedestrians. Pedestrians will be routed to the opposite side of the street where the south sidewalk will be open for use. The sidewalk on the west side of Spruce Pl will also be closed and pedestrians will have access to the east sidewalk. All residents living within the construction zone will have access to and from their homes. All businesses will still be able to utilize parking garages in the area; however, we will have meters hooded for No Parking in the street along Yale Pl as well as Spruce Pl. The current traffic control will remain this way for 2 more weeks, then we will be able to open up more areas along Yale Pl for all traffic as we move east toward 12th St S.

La Salle Avenue has been reduced to a single lane of traffic and will remain that way throughout construction.

Work on this project is expected to continue through the end of the week of June 9.

A crew is present this week, on Spruce Place between Oak Grove Street and West 15th Street, installing sections of modern natural gas main. Next week, the crew will move on to West 15th Street, at the intersection of Spruce Place, with plans to move west on West 15th Street. Gas main construction is expected to continue through the end of next week.

Spruce Place currently has one lane open for traffic, with work taking place on the east side of the road. The east sidewalk is closed while the west remains open. Street parking is restricted on both sides of Spruce Place at this time.

Natural gas construction updates

For a few weeks beginning in early April, CenterPoint Energy will replace natural gas infrastructure in the Loring Park Neighborhood. Updates regarding the utility crew's location, traffic impacts and other details will be posted here regularly.

Before construction begins, an authorized contractor will be in the area to locate sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. This is an important safety measure CenterPoint is required to take. It is possible a technician performing this work will need to access your home to locate sewer lines. Ask to see CenterPoint Energy identification before letting anyone in your home.
