What will CenterPoint Energy do? Beginning on Monday, October 26 and lasting into the spring of 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work on Humboldt Avenue S. between 27th Street W. and Midtown Greenway. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main and connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

This year, if the weather isn’t conducive for permanent restoration, Q3 Contracting will temporarily restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work with winter erosion control materials. In 2021, these areas will be permanently restored. This work will happen before the Metropolitan Council’s 2021 sewer project.

What are the traffic impacts? The crews will close one block of Humboldt Avenue S. at a time, beginning at 27th Street W. working south. The crews will work with residents on maintaining access. During each closure, one sidewalk will be open on Humboldt Avenue S. at a time. Each closure is anticipated to last approximately one to two weeks. During each closure, the crews will close one intersection at Humboldt Avenue S. at a time. Midtown Greenway will remain open. Detour routes will direct drivers to 26th, 27th or 28th Streets W. or to Lagoon Avenue respectively.

Lane and parking restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.

Connecting service lines to the new mains: As social distancing practices and proper use of PPE, face masks and gloves have become normalized and as customers are willing to allow properly protected personnel into their homes to complete required work to modernize gas facilities, which is essential work, CenterPoint Energy authorized contractors will enter customer homes to complete work only with customer permission.

The purpose of this flyer is to advise that with customer permission, crews will now enter homes to complete necessary gas meter work. If you choose not to allow crews to enter your home, gas service will not be interrupted, and we will reschedule for a time better suited to concerns you may have. Crews will continue to replace service lines. Crews may have to dig in the ground on your property in the utility easement and next to your home to complete the task of service line replacement.

Installing replacement gas mains: According to the Governor of Minnesota’s order, gas main replacement is an essential work function. This allows for the modernization of related gas facilities. The gas main work requires excavations in various locations in the right-of-way (front yard) to facilitate the installation work.
