This week, crews from Michels Corporation will finish connecting the natural gas service lines to the new main on Humboldt Avenue S.

Crews from Q3 Contracting put down winter erosion control in the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. On yards and boulevards, there is straw matting. On the roads and sidewalks, there is temporary asphalt. In 2021, Q3 Contracting will return for permanent restoration. This will include black dirt and seed on the yards and boulevards. On the sidewalks and roads, this will include concrete or blacktop on areas that were previously concrete or blacktop.

We want to thank you for your patience as we upgraded our natural gas system. We wish you a safe and well holiday season!

This week, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, began CenterPoint Energy’s project. For approximately three weeks, the crews will work on Humboldt Avenue S. from just north of 27th Street W. to 28th Street W. During this time, the crews will close Humboldt Avenue S. except for local access. The crews will close one sidewalk at a time to maintain pedestrian access. Westbound traffic on 27th Street W. will be detoured to 26th or 28th Streets W. Eastbound traffic on 27th Street W. will remain open.

The closure will accommodate the natural gas main replacement and the connection of the natural gas service lines to the new main. Restoration will follow. The areas affected by our work will be permanently restored in 2021.

Traffic Impacts

The crews will close one block of Humboldt Avenue S. at a time, beginning at 27th Street W. working south. The crews will work with residents on maintaining access. During each closure, one sidewalk will be open on Humboldt Avenue S. at a time.

Each closure is anticipated to last approximately one to two weeks. This will accommodate the main replacement and the road’s paving. During each closure, the crews will close one intersection at Humboldt Avenue S. at a time. Midtown Greenway will remain open. Detour routes will direct drivers to 26th, 27th or 28th Streets W. or to Lagoon Avenue respectively.

Project Description

Beginning on Monday, October 26 and lasting into the spring of 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work on Humboldt Avenue S. between 27th Street W. and Midtown Greenway. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. This year, if the weather isn’t conducive for permanent restoration, Q3 Contracting will temporarily restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work with winter erosion control materials. In 2021, these areas will be permanently restored. This work will happen before the Metropolitan Council’s 2021 sewer project.
