Minneapolis – 8th Street SE at 15th Avenue SE

What will CenterPoint Energy do?
For approximately one month beginning March 29, 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minneapolis along 8th Street SE at 15th Avenue SE. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s 8th Street SE Reconstruction. - For approximately three weeks, the crews will replace the natural gas main via open trench installation on the south side of 8th Street SE. For approximately one week, they will connect the new main to the existing intersecting ones and put the existing main out of service.
- For approximately half a week, the crews will connect the natural gas service lines to the new main.
- For approximately one week, the crews will temporarily restore the street and permanently restore the sidewalks outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s work.
What are the traffic impacts?
To accommodate the replacement, the crews will close the dead-end street of 8th Street SE and flag traffic. The crews will begin at the east end, working west. The sidewalk on 8th Street SE will have pedestrian barricades. The sidewalk at the northeastern corner of 15th Avenue SE and 8th Street SE will be closed. The bike lane on 15th Avenue SE may be closed at the intersection. Parking will be restricted on both sides of 8th Street SE.
