CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors are progressing on the job. Crews from Michels Corporation have replaced approximately half of the project’s natural gas main. Beginning tentatively on Tuesday, May 18, the crews will close a small portion of 6th Street S. from 15th Avenue S. to the driveway of 1501 6th Street S. All access to 6th Street S. will be from the east on Cedar Avenue. The crews anticipate finishing the main replacement by June 4. Flaggers are on site helping direct traffic. Driveways and parking lot entrances remain open.
After the main replacement, Michels Corporation will connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s Concrete Streets Rehabilitation.
For approximately 9 or 10 weeks beginning on Tuesday, May 4, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minneapolis on 6th Street S. just west of Cedar Avenue. While Michels Corporation will install a large-diameter natural gas steel main and remove the existing main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s Concrete Streets Rehabilitation.
Driveways and parking lot entrances will remain open. The crews will be on site to help with local access. Steel plates will be used as needed for driveway crossings. Although the crews will work in the southern lane on 6th Street S. for most of the project’s duration, the crews will fully close 6th Street S. for approximately 150 feet between the parking lot entrances of 1627 and 1611 6th Street S.
Detour routes will lead through traffic to 15th Avenue S., 4th Street S. and Cedar Avenue. The traffic control will shift as the crew progresses. This project is a continuation of CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas line replacements from this March and from 2019 on Cedar Avenue and 6th Street S.
For approximately one month beginning March 29, 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minneapolis on 6th Street S. just west of Cedar Avenue and in the parking lot and courtyard between the apartments at 630 Cedar Avenue and 620 Cedar Avenue. While Michels Corporation will install a large-diameter natural gas steel main and remove the existing main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
The crews will close the north side of 6th Street S. at the parking lot entrance of 1630 6th Street S. During this time, the south sidewalk will remain open. Parking will be restricted on both sides of 6th Street S. from Cedar Avenue to just west of the parking lot entrance. Traffic will be shifted. The parking lot entrances will remain open just north and south of 6th Street S.
This project is a continuation of CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas line replacement in 2019 on Cedar Avenue and 6th Street S.
