This week, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will finish the project’s natural gas work, including replacing the natural gas main and connecting the natural gas service lines to the new main. Early in the week of March 29, temporary restoration will be completed. All affected roads and parking will be open by Thursday, April 1. Final restoration will be completed after all frost is out of the ground, and it will be in coordination with the upcoming sewer project.

The crews are scheduled to leave the project’s site by April 2. Below are the details:


The crews have replaced the project’s natural gas mains. In the week of March 22, the crews will finish connecting the final of the project’s service lines to the new mains.


Today on March 19, the crews are pre-cutting asphalt to prepare for the service line connection at the Target Center. This weekend, they will install the service line to Target Center. The meter work will be completed on Tuesday, March 23.


On Monday, March 22, the crews will complete temporary restoration on the intersection of 2nd Avenue N. and 6th Street N. From the afternoon of Wednesday, March 24 to the morning of Thursday, March 25, the crews will switch traffic to the east side of 2nd Avenue N. so we can finish the final service line connection.


On Friday, March 26, the crews will put the existing natural gas mains out of service and begin cleaning the site. Crews from Michels Corporation plan to leave by Saturday, March 27. Within the week of March 29, crews from Q3 Contracting will finish temporarily restoring the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. They will remove the traffic barriers within that same week, depending on weather.

By the end of the week of March 22, the crews anticipate finishing the project’s natural gas work. This will include the natural gas main replacement and the connection of the service lines to the new main. Currently the crews are working on 2nd Avenue N., finishing the natural gas main replacement. The crews anticipate that temporary restoration should be complete by April 1. Final restoration will be done at a later date to coordinate with other utility work, weather and ground conditions.

CenterPoint Energy’s crews will work this Saturday and Sunday, February 27 and 28, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They will continue working on 1st Avenue N. and 6th Street N.

2/23/2021

This week and the week of March 1, the crews will continue to work on 1st Avenue N. and the north side of 6th Street N. They are connecting natural gas service lines to the new mains, coordinating the work with businesses in the area. The current lane and sidewalk closures are remaining in place during active construction.

2/12/2021

The crews are continuing to work on 1st Avenue N. between 5th and 6th Streets N. On Tuesday, February 16, the crews will start working on 6th Street N. between Hennepin Avenue and 1st Avenue N. On Monday, March 1, the crews will start working on 6th Street N. between 1st and 2nd Avenues N.


For approximately two to three weeks, weather pending, traffic on 6th Street N. will be restricted to one lane with no parking on the north side of the street. There will be intermittent pedestrian crossing and sidewalk closures at the intersection of 1st Avenue N. and 6th Street N. during this time.

Crews from Michels Corporation are continuing to replace the natural gas lines on 1st Avenue N. between 5th and 6th Streets N. and will continue into the week of February 8. There may be intermittent sidewalk/pedestrian crossing closings at 6th Street N. at the end of the week of February 8 or the week of February 15.

1/28/2021

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will start the project on Tuesday, February 2, on the east side of 1st Avenue N. between 5th and 6th Streets N. Two-way traffic will be maintained on 1st Avenue N. During active construction, no parking will be available on 1st Avenue N. Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the intersections and access to the parking lot will maintained at all times with minimal delays.


This phase of the project will last for approximately two or three weeks and will consist of replacing the natural gas main and connecting the natural gas service lines to the new main. The crews will reach out to customers to schedule an appointment prior to the service line connections.
