The crews have replaced the natural gas main on 57th Street E. from 28th to 24th Avenues S. By the end of this week, the crews plan to have replaced the main from 24th Avenue S. to Standish Avenue S. On Monday, they will begin replacing the main from Standish Avenue S., working west.
The crews are connecting the natural gas service lines to the new main as they work west. The traffic control plan is still in effect so that Q3 Contracting can restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
On Thursday, March 25, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, began replacing the project’s natural gas main. They are working west from 28th Avenue S. to Longfellow Avenue. On the project’s route, no parking signs are posted on both sides of 57th Street E and at each intersection just north and south of 57th Street E. The crews estimate that the natural gas work, which includes replacing the main and connecting the service lines to the new main, will take approximately six weeks.
CenterPoint Energy is working in coordination with the City of Minneapolis’s Street Resurfacing Program. CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Q3 Contracting, will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the city’s work.
Although 57th Street E. will remain open to drivers, sidewalk and parking closures will occur. From Longfellow to Standish Avenues, the crews will work under the south sidewalk and boulevard of 57th Street E. From Standish to 28th Avenues S., the crews will work under the north sidewalk and boulevard of 57th Street E. In areas of active construction, parking will be restricted on both sides of 57th Street E. and just north and south of 57th Street E. While one sidewalk will remain closed, the opposite will remain open. The crews anticipate removing a few sidewalk panels at a time to allow for the directional boring of the natural gas lines.
From spring to summer 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minneapolis along the east side of along 57th Street E. between Longfellow Avenue and 28th Avenue S.
While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s Street Resurfacing Program.
During this time, lane or parking closures may occur. More details will be added closer to the project’s start date.
