Where have the crews been so far? From mid-June to mid-July 2020, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors performed work in the southern lanes of
1st Avenue N. between 3rd and 5th Streets N. in Minneapolis. While Michels Corporation replaced the natural gas main and connected the service lines to the new main, Q3 Contracting have been restoring the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
Where will the crews be? As of the week of July 20, the crews have replaced the natural gas mains and service lines on 1st Avenue N. south of 3rd Street N. From mid-July to early August, the crews will replace the final portion of the project’s natural gas main at 3rd Avenue S. and 4th Street S.
Traffic impacts: During active construction at 3rd Avenue S. and 4th Street S., there will be lane shifts at this intersection. One-way traffic on 4th Street S. can’t turn right onto 3rd Avenue S. Two-way traffic will be maintained on 3rd Avenue S. The north sidewalk of 3rd Avenue S. at 4th Street S. will be closed. These restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.
Installing replacement gas mains: According to
the Governor of Minnesota’s order, gas main replacement is an essential work function. This allows for the modernization of related gas facilities. The gas main work requires excavations in various locations in the right-of-way (front yard) to facilitate the installation work.
