Correction: In May and June, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, replaced the first of the project’s two natural gas mains along 11th Street SE from 4th to 8th Streets SE. This week and next, the crews will replace the second of the natural gas mains. They will also connect the natural gas service lines to the new main.
Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Project description: From the week of May 4 to early or mid-June 2020, CenterPoint Energy’s project will take place on 11th Avenue SE between 4th and 8th Streets SE. Work will be performed by CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors: Crews from Michels Corporation will replace natural gas mains. Crews from Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
Installing replacement gas mains: According to
the Governor of Minnesota’s order, gas main replacement is an essential work function. This allows for the modernization of related gas facilities. The gas main work requires excavations in various locations in the right-of-way (front yard) to facilitate the installation work.
Traffic impacts: Crews from Michels Corporation will close two blocks at a time for two weeks at a time. They will begin working between 4th and 6th Streets SE and then between 6th and 8th Streets SE. These restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Local access will be maintained.
