Wayzata Boulevard and Texas Avenue S.
Crews from Minnesota Limited, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, opened the intersection of Wayzata Boulevard and Texas Avenue S.

Early within the week of November 18, crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will spray hydroseed on the soft surfaces affected by Minnesota Limited’s construction. Since hydroseed is winter erosion control, these areas will be permanently restored in 2020.

Laurel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S.
Today on November 14, Q3 Contracting is performing dirt work. Early next week they’ll hydroseed the area, which will be permanently restored in 2020.
Due to weather, the crews temporarily restored the sidewalk with asphalt and will return in 2020 to permanently restore with concrete.

Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, paved and opened Winnetka and Sumter Avenues. Today on Tuesday, November 12, the crews will pave the intersection of Wayzata Boulevard and Texas Avenue S. The intersection is anticipated to be opened tomorrow on November 13.

In the latter half of this week, crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will pave and open Winnetka and Sumter Avenues, weather permitting. Within the first half of the week of November 11, the crews will pave and open Texas Avenue and Wayzata Boulevard. 


10/29/2019

  • Within the week of November 4, crews from Minnesota Limited, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, anticipate finishing the natural gas work for the project.
  • Within the week of November 11, the crews anticipate opening the closures on Winnetka Avenue N. and Wayzata Boulevard. By then the roads will have been restored.

  • Crews from Minnesota Limited, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will have a hard closure of northbound Winnetka Avenue N. from Western Avenue to Laurel Avenue. This closure is expected to last until November 22. By then this area is expected to finish with natural gas main replacement and with restoration.
  • The reason for the closure is the continued safety of drivers and of residents with driveways along northbound Winnetka Avenue N. These residents can access their driveways via southbound Winnetka Avenue N.
  • Detour signs will remain in place with the same detour route. This traffic plan was coordinated between CenterPoint Energy and the City of Golden Valley.

Beginning on Tuesday, October 8 and lasting for approximately four weeks, the following traffic plans will be in place with detour signs:

Winnetka Avenue S. (please see our Map of Winnetka Construction)
  • Northbound Winnetka Avenue S. will be closed from Ewald Terrace to Western Avenue.
  • Eastbound Western Avenue at Winnetka Avenue S. will be closed.
  • Ewald Terrace will remain open except for the intersection of Winnetka Avenue S. Driveways will remain open.

  • There will be no through traffic going eastbound and westbound on Wayzata Boulevard at Texas Avenue S.
  • Northbound Texas Ave. S. can turn east onto Wayzata Blvd. Westbound Wayzata Blvd. can turn south onto Texas Ave. S.

In the week of October 7, crews from Minnesota Limited, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin the closures on Winnetka Avenue S., Ewald Terrace and Texas Avenue S. The details from our September 30 date below will remain the same, unless otherwise noted.

Due to the crews’ progress and agreements between CenterPoint Energy and the City of Golden Valley, CenterPoint Energy is delaying some of its construction for the Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project. When they resume construction, they will be installing the last of the project’s natural gas main and restoring the areas affected by their construction. Any closures are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Detour signs will be on site. Please see our Map of Construction for details:
 
  • For approx. four weeks beginning in early Oct., CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, will close the following areas: Ewald Ter. from Sumter Ave. S. to Winnetka Ave. S., and Winnetka Ave. S. between Ewald Ter. and Western Ave. Residents will have access to and from their driveways. Drivers can go southbound on Winnetka but not northbound during this time.
  • For approx. four weeks beginning in early Oct., the crews will close the intersection of Texas Ave. S. and the south frontage road of Wayzata Blvd. Northbound Texas Ave. S. can turn east onto Wayzata Blvd. Westbound Wayzata Blvd. can turn south onto Texas Ave. S.

Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have restored the curb along the north frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard. Today on Thursday, August 8, and tomorrow on Friday, August 9, the crews are paving the north and south frontage roads of Wayzata Boulevard. Within the week of August 12, the crews will restore the soft surfaces that were affected in this area.

CenterPoint Energy will be opening the closure on the south frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard by approximately the end of the week of August 5, 2019. We appreciate your patience as we progress in construction.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, have installed approximately 80 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project. Below are the construction details:

  • On the north frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard between Rhode Island Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S., the crews will continue to close this area until approximately the end of July to install natural gas main and restore the area.
  • On the south frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard between Pennsylvania Avenue S. and Louisiana Avenue, the crews will continue to close this area until approximately the end of July to install natural gas main and restore the area.
  • On Wayzata Boulevard between Winnetka and Texas Avenues, a lane shift is set up with two lanes of traffic being maintained.
  • If any changes are necessary for the north or south frontage roads, the changes will be coordinated between CenterPoint Energy and the Cities of Golden Valley and St. Louis Park. The closures will allow the crews to perform their work and to keep the crews and public safe.
  • The crews have finished pipework in the northeastern corner of Laurel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S. Restoration will follow.
  • On Sumter Avenue S. between Wayzata Boulevard and Ewald Terrace, the crews have finished the natural gas main installation and have been paving the road. This area should be open during the week of July 15.
  • On Winnetka Avenue between Ewald Terrace and Western Avenue, the crews have delayed work until approximately October 2019. In the meantime, the crews are continuing to work in the Wayzata Boulevard area as noted above. The duration of the Winnetka Avenue portion will take approximately three weeks. We appreciate your patience and understanding. 



7/3/2019
CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, have installed approximately 75 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project. Below are the construction details:

  • On the north frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard between Rhode Island Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S., the crews will continue to close this area until approximately the end of July to install natural gas main and restore the area.
  • On the south frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard between Pennsylvania Avenue S. and Louisiana Avenue, the crews will continue to close this area until approximately the end of July to install natural gas main and restore the area.
  • On Wayzata Boulevard between Winnetka and Texas Avenues, a lane shift is set up with two lanes of traffic being maintained.

  • The crews are continuing to install natural gas main on Sumter Avenue S., working north from Laurel Avenue to Ewald Terrance and from Wayzata Boulevard to Laurel Avenue. Sumter Avenue S. is closed to through traffic with resident access maintained. The crews have installed natural gas main between Wayzata Boulevard and Laurel Avenue. Restoration will follow.
  • Beginning Wednesday, July 10, for approximately three weeks, the crews will be installing natural gas main on Winnetka Avenue between Ewald Terrace and Western Avenue. During this time, only southbound traffic will be permitted. Northbound traffic will be detoured. Also during this time, the crews will be restoring the areas affected by their construction before opening the road to two-way traffic.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, are progressing on CenterPoint Energy’s Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project. Below are the construction details.

  • On the north frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard between Rhode Island Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S., the crews will continue to close this area until approximately the end of July to install natural gas main and restore the area.
  • On the south frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard between Pennsylvania Avenue S. and Louisiana Avenue, the crews will continue to close this area until approximately the end of July to install natural gas main and restore the area.
  • If any changes are necessary for the north or south frontage roads, the changes will be coordinated between CenterPoint Energy and the Cities of Golden Valley and St. Louis Park. The closures will allow the crews to perform their work and to keep the crews and public safe.
  • The crews are continuing to work in the northeastern corner of Laurel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S. without impacting traffic.
  • The crews are continuing to install natural gas main on Sumter Avenue S., working north from Laurel Avenue to Ewald Terrance and from Wayzata Boulevard to Laurel Avenue. Sumter Avenue S. is closed to through traffic with resident access maintained.  
  • The crews will finish installing the natural gas main on Sumter Avenue S. between Wayzata Boulevard and Laurel Avenue by Monday, July 1. After the pipework is done, the crews will restore the areas affected by their construction. 



6/21/2019
CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, have installed approximately 50 percent of project’s natural gas main. Below are the construction details:

  • The crews are continuing to bore natural gas main under I-394.
  • The crews are installing natural gas main along the north frontage road of Wayzata Boulevard going east from Rhode Island Avenue S. Until further notice, this road will remain closed to through traffic. Local access for businesses and residents will be maintained.  
  • The crews are continuing to install natural gas main on Sumter Avenue S., working north from Laurel Avenue to Ewald Terrance and from Wayzata Boulevard to Laurel Avenue. Sumter Avenue S. is closed to through traffic with resident access maintained.  
  • The crews are continuing to work in the northeastern corner of Laurel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S. without impacting traffic.
  • From Saturday, June 22, to Sunday, June 23, the crews will close Laurel Avenue at Sumter Avenue S. to install the natural gas main. On June 24 and 25, the crews will open Laurel Avenue. During this time, flaggers will direct traffic at this intersection while it is being paved. 



6/12/2019
CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, have installed 31 percent of project’s natural gas main. Below are the construction details:

  • The crews are continuing to install natural gas main on Sumter Avenue S., working north from Laurel Avenue to Ridgeway Road. The crews are continuing to work in the northeastern corner of Laurel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S. without impacting traffic.
  • This Friday, June 14, crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will pave the north and south frontage roads of Wayzata Boulevard from Pennsylvania Avenue S. to Texas Avenue S. and from Rhode Island Avenue S. to Sumter Avenue S. respectively. These roads will remain closed until further notice. Although local resident and business access will be allowed, there will be no through traffic. Detour signs are on site. 
  • From Saturday, June 22, to Sunday, June 23, the crews will close Laurel Avenue at Sumter Avenue S. to install the natural gas main. On June 24 and 25, the crews will have flaggers at this intersection while it is being paved. 



6/6/2019
CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, are continuing to work on the Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project. Below are the construction details:

  • The crews are currently boring under I-394 between the north and south frontage roads of Wayzata Boulevard.
  • The crews are continuing to install natural gas main on the north and south frontage roads of Wayzata Boulevard. On the north frontage road, they are working west from Pennsylvania Avenue S. to Sumter Avenue S. On the south frontage road, they are working west from Pennsylvania Avenue S. to Texas Avenue S.
  • The crews are continuing to work on the vault in the northeastern corner of Laurel Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue S. without impacting traffic.
  • The crews have closed Sumter Avenue S. between Ewald Terrace and Wayzata Boulevard to through traffic. Resident access is maintained. Detour signs are on site. Yesterday on Wednesday, June 5, the road was milled. A crew moved in on the north side of Laurel Avenue, working to the north. Ridgeway Road and Laurel Avenue will remain open until further notice.



5/30/2019
As part of CenterPoint Energy’s Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, will be performing work along Ewald Ter. from Winnetka Ave. N. to Sumter Ave. N. and Sumter Ave. N. from Ewald Ter. to Wayzata Blvd. Any changes are coordinated between CenterPoint Energy and the City of Golden Valley. Please view our Map of Construction Area.
 
From Wednesday, June 5, to early July, Minnesota Limited will close these roads to through traffic. During this time the crews will be milling the road, installing the natural gas main, and restoring the areas affected by their construction.
 
Although parking will be obstructed on both sides of the affected roads, residents can access their driveways. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Ridgeway Rd. and Laurel Ave. will remain open for most of the project’s duration. When the crews cross these streets, they will close one street at a time. Each closure will last approximately a few business days. These closures are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, is progressing in the Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project. Below are the details for this update:
 
  • The crews have closed the north frontage road of I-394 between Sumter and Pennsylvania Avenues S. and the south frontage road between Texas Avenue S. and just east of Pennsylvania Avenue S. These closures will allow the crews to install the project’s natural gas main.
  • Currently the crews have opened part of the intersection of Texas Avenue S. and the south frontage road of I-394. For example, drivers can turn left onto westbound south frontage road from northbound Texas Avenue S., or right onto southbound Texas Avenue S. from eastbound south frontage road.
  • The crews are currently working on vaults in the northeast corner of the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue S. and Laurel Avenue. No traffic is obstructed in this area.
  • The crews are boring natural gas main underneath I-394. 



5/15/2019
In St. Louis Park, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, will be installing natural gas main along the south frontage road (Wayzata Boulevard S.) of I-394 from the west side of Texas Avenue to just east of Pennsylvania Avenue. Beginning May 20, the crews will close this portion of the road to through traffic. Detour routes are posted on site. The closure will last for approximately four weeks, reopen temporarily, and close again for approximately two more weeks. Any changes are coordinated between CenterPoint Energy and St. Louis Park. During this time, drivers can access residences and businesses.
 
Within the week of May 13, Minnesota Limited has placed the pre-warning signs. CenterPoint Energy’s inspectors have gone from door to door along the route notifying customers and businesses of the closure. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to make the construction process run smoothly. Lane restrictions will be anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Local access will be maintained.

5/3/2019
  • CenterPoint Energy has moved the start date of the Golden Valley 2019 Belt Line Project to within the week of May 6. CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Minnesota Limited, has been performing construction nearby for CenterPoint Energy’s “McNair Avenue N., 23rd Avenue N. and Glenwood Parkway.”
  • On May 8, Minnesota Limited will be bringing in their equipment at Wayzata Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue S. The crews will be in this area until approximately May 31.
  • In the week of May 13, the crews will place pre-warning signs indicating our construction along Wayzata Boulevard just south of Highway 394 in the St. Louis Park area. During the week of May 20, the crews will be installing natural gas main along Wayzata Boulevard in the St. Louis Park area.
  • During the week of May 27, the crews will be boring the natural gas main under Highway 394.
  • Traffic is not anticipated to be disrupted by this construction. Any changes will be coordinated with the City of Golden Valley.

Where, when, and why is CenterPoint Energy performing construction?
CenterPoint Energy will be replacing part of the natural gas Belt Line system in Golden Valley from the week of May 6 to July 2019. Project construction will occur in the area of Winnetka Avenue S., Western Avenue, Ewald Terrace, Sumter Avenue, Wayzata Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue S.

Lane restrictions will be anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. If any closures are necessary, they will be minimized. Local access will be maintained. More details will be added to this web page closer to the project’s start date.

This project is a continuation of CenterPoint Energy’s Belt Line project in Minnesota, which began in 2012 and will continue until approximately 2022. The Belt Line system is a series of natural gas distribution mains along routes from Brooklyn Center to Bloomington and from Golden Valley to Minneapolis.
