A crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main on Holt Street NW and will remove the traffic barriers by the end of the day on Monday, October 11. On Tuesday, October 12, the crew will begin replacing the main on Jackson Street NW, working in the west southbound lane from Holt Street NW to Freeport Court NW. This week, they will continue working south, setting up the lane shift where they are working.
On Monday, October 4, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin replacing the project’s natural gas mains. During the week of October 4, they will replace the main on Holt Street between 193rd and 194th Avenues NW and at 197th Avenue NW.
In the week of October 11, they will replace the main on Jackson Avenue between 190th Avenue NW and Holt Street. They plan to replace the main across Highway 169 at 194th Avenue NW. During that time, lane shifts will occur on Highway 169 but no full road closures.
In the week of October 18, they plan to connect the new main to the existing intersection mains at Jackson Avenue and School Street.
In areas of active construction, lane shifts will occur. The sidewalk will be closed on the side where the crews are working. Parking may be restricted on the side streets near where the crews are working.
Beginning in late September 2021 and ending in late fall 2021 or spring 2022, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Elk River along the following streets:
Baldwin Avenue NW from 5th to 3rd Streets NW; Line Avenue NW from Twin Lakes Road NW to Main Street NW; Carlson Street NW from Main Street NW to Chipotle Mexican Grill; Dodge Street NW from 193rd Street NW to Elk Hills Drive NW; Dodge Avenue NW from Elk Hills Drive NW to 5th Street NW; by Marcus Elk River Cinema, Flowers Plus of Elk River, and Burger King; Holt and Evans Streets NW from 193rd to 194th Streets NW; 193rd Street NW from Evans to Dodge Streets NW; and Jackson Avenue NW and Jackson Road NW from Freeport Court NW to School Street NW.
While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas mains, connect the natural gas service lines to the new mains, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
During this time, parking, lane, sidewalk, and full road closures may occur. The following roads will have temporary closures at alternating times: Gates Avenue at School Street; Dodge Street from 193rd to 192nd Avenues NW; Elk Hills Drive just east of Dodge Street; and 5th Street NW from Dodge to Baldwin Avenues NW. The crews will be on site to help maintain local access. Our website will be updated throughout the project’s duration.
The construction crews and personnel will continue to use the Covid-19 Customer Permission Flyer, which requests customer permission prior to entering homes. Personnel, contractors and CenterPoint Energy employees will continue to practice CDC guidelines regarding social distancing, sanitary practices and wearing face masks when entering customer homes.
The customer will receive a CenterPoint Energy postcard in the mail typically within one or two weeks prior to the day when the Michels Corporation crews will perform the work. The crews will have CenterPoint Energy-authorized photo IDs stating that they are employees of Michels Corporation.
After the customer receives the postcard, the foreman will arrive at the customer’s house to schedule an appointment that typically meets with the customer’s schedule. If the customer isn’t home when they arrives, he will leave a door tag with his contact information to schedule an appointment with him.
Customers are advised to set aside a two- to four-hour time frame for the inside-to-outside gas meter move. They are also advised to mark their privately-installed utilities such as dog fences or sprinklers. Marking can be accomplished with tools such as spray paint or utility flags. The foreman will access the natural gas meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated.
Customers with outside meters will be notified prior to the replacement or connection of the service lines to the new mains. Areas affected by our work will be restored to their original condition.
On the soft surfaces such as boulevards and lawns, various erosion control measures keep the restored area moist, hold seed in the soil, and enhance seed germination. If an erosion blanket is needed it is secured in place with staples. The mesh is a wood fiber that will completely degrade. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.
