Edina - Normandale Park Area - Project Updates

3/31/2020

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, began the Normandale Park Area project today at 64th Street West and Josephine Avenue, working west toward Holborn Avenue. For the week of March 31 and April 6, the crews anticipate replacing the natural gas main on 64th Street West from Josephine to Holborn Avenues. Although two-way traffic will be maintained on 64th Street West, parking will be restricted on the north and south sides of 64th Street West in areas of active construction.

After that, the crews will replace the natural gas mains on the project’s streets between Highway 62 and 66th Street West and between Holborn and Josephine Avenues.

Project Description: CenterPoint Energy’s project is anticipated to last from March 31 to late summer or early fall 2020. It will happen along the project’s streets between Holborn and Josephine Avenues and between 62nd and 66th Streets West. Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace natural gas mains and connect natural gas service lines to the new mains. Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the city’s project.

This project will happen concurrently with CenterPoint Energy’s Josephine Avenue and 64th Street W. 2020 Belt Line Project, which is scheduled to last from the week of June 8 to the week of August 3.

Connecting service lines to the new mains: This may include service line replacement and relocating gas meters from inside the home to outside. (The timing of this phase depends on updates related to COVID-19.) Customers will experience a short disruption of gas service as the crews are installing the new gas service line. Crews may have to dig in the ground on your property in the utility easement to complete the task of service and main distribution line replacement.

Traffic impacts: Work will occur in segments rather than all at once. Although no major closures are expected for this project, the crews plan to work on one side of the road at a time. Lane and parking restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Local access will be maintained.
