Edina - Melody Lake Neighborhood - Project Updates

Since late June, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have been removing the existing natural gas mains from the project’s routes. They removed the existing mains from Code Avenue and Bernard Place. They are currently removing the main from Grove Street, heading west toward Hanson Boulevard, working on one side of the road. The crews are working alongside the City of Edina’s contractors for the Melody Lake A & B, Birchcrest C and Grandview A Neighborhood Roadway Reconstruction.

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, are continuing to connect residents’ natural gas service lines to the new mains. They estimate that in approximately three weeks, the project’s natural gas work will be complete. This includes the service line work and the connection of the new natural gas mains with the existing intersecting mains.

Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will follow to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will finish replacing the project’s natural gas plastic mains by May 6. In approximately one month, the crews anticipate finishing the project’s natural gas service line connections. South of Grove Street, they have finished with the service line work and are connecting the natural gas mains to the existing intersecting ones. They also finished the service line work on Hansen Road and 57th Street W. and are working on Dale Avenue.

By the end of the week of May 10, the crews will have finished replacing the project’s natural gas steel main on Windsor Avenue. In the week of May 17, the crews plan to connect the service lines to the new main on Windsor Avenue. Approximately May 20, paving is scheduled for that area.

By the end of the week of April 26, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will have finished replacing the project’s natural gas plastic mains. The steel main replacement will continue on Windsor Avenue.

Currently, the crews are replacing the plastic main on the project’s map between Hansen Road, Code Avenue and Melody Lake Drive.

The crews have been connecting the natural gas service lines to the new mains, following the main crew’s route.

At the end of this week, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin setting up their equipment on the cul-de-sac of Windsor Avenue just east of Hansen Road. In the week of April 12, they will begin replacing the natural gas steel main.

The crews estimate that the main replacement will take approximately three weeks on Windsor Avenue. The crews will start on the easternmost end, working west toward Hansen Road and Vernon Avenue S. The main replacement will take place in the roadway.

During this time, the crews will be on site, assisting residents with driveway access. Windsor Avenue will be open to residents only. Parking will be restricted on both sides of Windsor Avenue and on both sides of Hansen Road just south of Windsor Avenue. On Hansen Road, the crews will place their equipment.

Two-way traffic will be maintained on Vernon Avenue S. and on Hansen Road.

The road’s permanent restoration will be performed by the City of Edina for its “Melody Lake A & B, Birchcrest C and Grandview A Neighborhood Roadway Reconstruction” project. Depending on weather and the crews’ progress, temporary restoration may occur to allow residents to drive on Windsor Avenue.

On Monday, March 29, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin replacing the project’s natural gas mains. They will start on Code Avenue and Bernard Place. When the mains are replaced here, they will replace the project’s mains south of Grove Street before moving north of Grove Street.

From March 29 to late spring or early summer 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Edina along the following streets in the Melody Lake Neighborhood: Windsor Avenue and Hansen Road; 56th Street W. between Dale and Code Avenues; Hansen Road, Dale Avenue, Bernard Place, and Melody Lake Drive between 56th Street W. and Grove Street; Grove Street between Hansen Road and Tingdale Avenue; 59th Street W. between Code and Tingdale Avenues; Code Avenue between Grove Street and 60th Street W.; and Tingdale Avenue between 59th Street W. and Benton Avenue.

While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. During this time, lane or parking closures may occur. This project will be done in coordination with the City of Edina’s Melody Lake A & B, Birchcrest C and Grandview A Neighborhood Roadway Reconstruction project.

During active construction, the crews will close parking on both sides of the road where they’re working. Windsor Avenue will be closed to through traffic and open to local residents only. Flaggers may be on site directing traffic.
