Project Status - Edina - Blake Road Belt Line Project

10/29/2019

Where, when, and why is CenterPoint Energy performing construction?

Revised start date: CenterPoint Energy has delayed a portion of its Blake Road Belt Line Project to the 2020 construction season. This November for a few weeks, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will perform work on an underground vault on Blake Road S. at Boyce Street.

The natural gas main installation between Spruce Road and Waterman Avenue, in addition to Maloney Avenue, will happen in 2020. The project’s details are coordinated with Metropolitan Council. For more information on the council’s work, please see its web page here. Closer to our project’s 2020 start date, our website will be updated and letters will be sent.

This project is a continuation of CenterPoint Energy’s Belt Line project in Minnesota, which began in 2012 and will continue until approximately 2022. The Belt Line system is a series of natural gas distribution mains along routes from Brooklyn Center to Bloomington and from Golden Valley to Minneapolis.

What are the estimated traffic impacts?

  • Residents and local businesses will have access to their properties.
  • Construction will occur in segments along the construction route, rather than all at once. Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. If any closures are necessary, they will be minimized.

  • CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Q3 Contracting, will restore the areas affected by CenterPoint Energy’s construction outside the limits of municipality work—typically the boulevard, lawn, sidewalk and road.
