Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, are replacing the natural gas main on Zane Avenue N. They estimate that by May 28, they will have finished the main replacement work, which includes installing the new main, returning to the cross streets, and connecting the new main to the existing intersecting mains.

Following the main work, the crew will connect the natural gas service lines to the new main. This work will begin in the week of May 24 and last for approximately two weeks. Homeowners with inside meters on the project will be contacted to schedule an appointment to move the inside meter outside. The approximate duration of the meter move is 2 to 3 hours. Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will follow to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Project Description

Beginning on May 12 and lasting into summer 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Brooklyn Park along Zane Avenue N. between 85th Avenue N. and Brooklyn Boulevard. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Most of the main will be replaced on the west southbound side of Zane Avenue N. with a few crossings to the east side of Zane Avenue N. There will be a short section of main replaced on the north side of Brooklyn Boulevard.

Traffic Impacts

For most of the project’s duration, lane, sidewalk and parking closures may occur. Work will happen in segments rather than all at once. Local access will be maintained. For a limited time, drivers heading eastbound on 85th Avenue N. can’t make a right turn heading southbound on Zane Avenue N. During this time, detour signs will lead drivers eastbound on 85th Avenue N., southbound on Regent Avenue N. and westbound on Brookdale Drive N.
