From Monday, September 13 to approximately Friday, September 17 or Saturday, September 18, a crew will resume replacing the project’s natural gas steel main on Winnetka Avenue. They will work approximately 650 feet north of 93rd Avenue N. and work south to 93rd Avenue N. During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained on Winnetka Avenue and on 93rd Avenue N. Entrances to driveways and parking lots will remain open.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors are making progress. Crews from Michels Corporation replaced the project’s natural gas plastic mains. Crews from Q3 Contracting are replacing the blacktop areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. This month, another Michels Corporation crew will return on site to continue replacing the natural gas steel main. More details will be provided.

A crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, replaced the natural gas steel main from the north side of Highway 610 to Winnetka Avenue and County Road 30. They are working from north to south on Winnetka Avenue, which turns into Wyoming Avenue at County Road 30. The crews will continue to maintain a lane shift and restricted parking in areas of open excavation and/or active construction.

A crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have begun replacing the project’s natural gas plastic main. They will work on the east side of Winnetka Avenue from approximately 130 feet north of 97th Avenue N. to the northeast side of West Broadway Avenue. The main replacement in area is anticipated to last this week and the week of August 30, pending weather.

Traffic Impacts

Unless otherwise noted, the crews will maintain two-way traffic as they close lanes on the affected roads. Parking and sidewalk closures may occur. Flaggers may be on site to help direct traffic. During this time, customers should not expect to have their natural gas turned off.

Project Description

From early August to late fall 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Brooklyn Park on Wyoming Avenue N. from 85th to 93rd Avenues N. and on Winnetka Avenue N. from 93rd Avenue N. to W. Broadway Avenue. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

The first natural gas main is small-diameter plastic that is typically bored underground. The second main is large-diameter steel. Since the crews weld the pieces of the pipe together, the steel main replacement requires open excavation and takes longer to install than the small-diameter plastic main. Time spent on each block will vary due to the size of the block, the steel offsets, the restoration preparation, and the weather. Restoration will follow the steel main work.
