A crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, replaced the natural gas steel main from the north side of Highway 610 to Winnetka Avenue and County Road 30. A crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have begun replacing the project’s natural gas plastic main. They will work on the east side of Winnetka Avenue from approximately 130 feet north of 97th Avenue N. to the northeast side of West Broadway Avenue. The main replacement in area is anticipated to last this week and the week of August 30, pending weather.
Unless otherwise noted, the crews will maintain two-way traffic as they close lanes on the affected roads. Parking and sidewalk closures may occur. Flaggers may be on site to help direct traffic. During this time, customers should not expect to have their natural gas turned off.
From early August to late fall 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Brooklyn Park on Wyoming Avenue N. from 85th to 93rd Avenues N. and on Winnetka Avenue N. from 93rd Avenue N. to W. Broadway Avenue. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
The first natural gas main is small-diameter plastic that is typically bored underground. The second main is large-diameter steel. Since the crews weld the pieces of the pipe together, the steel main replacement requires open excavation and takes longer to install than the small-diameter plastic main. Time spent on each block will vary due to the size of the block, the steel offsets, the restoration preparation, and the weather. Restoration will follow the steel main work.
