Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have replaced the project’s natural gas mains and have been connecting natural gas service lines to the new mains. This week, the crews are connecting service lines on Tyler Street NE before moving to Jackson Street NE. The crews anticipate finishing the service line work in the week of May 10.

On Monday, March 29, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin replacing the project’s natural gas mains. Lane closures will occur on Jackson, Van Buren, Tyler and Polk Streets NE between 89th and 91st Avenues NE. The crews will assist residents with access to driveways and will allow access to mail, garbage and delivery services.


The crews will start replacing the mains on Van Buren and Tyler Streets NE between 89th and 91st Avenues NE. On these streets, the crews estimate an approximate duration of four weeks to include the main replacement, service line connection, and restoration of the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. During this time, parking will be restricted on both sides of Van Buren and Tyler Streets NE to accommodate the crews’ work.


After the crews start on Van Buren and Tyler Streets NE, they will start on Polk Street NE between 89th and 91st Avenues NE. Through traffic will be detoured to Highway 65.

Project Description

From March 29 to within April or mid-spring 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Blaine along the following streets: Jackson, Van Buren, Tyler and Polk Streets NE between 89th and 91st Avenues NE; Taylor and Fillmore Streets NE between 91st Avenue NE and 90th Lane NE; and 90th Avenue NE and 90th Lane NE between Polk and Fillmore Streets NE.


While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Traffic Impacts

During active construction, Polk Street NE will be closed to through traffic. On Jackson, Van Buren, Tyler and Polk Streets NE, parking will be restricted on both sides. Sidewalk closures will occur on one side of 89th and 91st Avenues NE.
