In areas where applicable, permits must be received before electric meters can be installed. If CenterPoint Energy construction is NOT required, and weather/workload permits, meters are usually installed within three (3-5) business days from the scheduled start date of the move-in request received from your Retail Electric Provider.
If CenterPoint Energy construction is required, please complete an Electric Service Request form centerpointenergy.com/esr. After the Electric Service Request has been submitted, a Service Consultant will be assigned to assist you with the construction process and any questions you may have. CenterPoint Energy will provide the ESI ID# for your account to the email address provided once construction is nearing completion.
If you are a multi-unit/apartment builder: Email your request for multiple ESI ID numbers to CEHEElectricMultipleRequest@CenterPointEnergy.com or call 713-207-7203.
Please note: The service address must be permanently labeled and should remain legible for the life of the service. In addition, for grouping of meters, the address shall be labeled with an ENGRAVED or STAMPED METALIC/PHENOLIC LABEL at the new electric meter location.
After receiving your ESI ID, please allow 2 business days before contacting the Retail Electric Provider of your choice. For a list of Retail Providers, visit http://powertochoose.org.
*Note: The 22-digit ESI ID number serves to identify the service location for a specific address. It also identifies the meter where electric usage will be tracked. The ESI ID number is NOT an account number.
