Improving and Modernizing Ohio’s Natural Gas System
CenterPoint Energy is committed to providing safer and more reliable gas service for the 337,000 customers and communities across West Central Ohio expect and deserve. To better serve you, we have made a series of critical upgrades, improvements and investments to the local gas system, including:
- Replacing nearly 470 miles of pipelines to strengthen reliability and safety
- Installing approximately 30,000 advanced meters to provide enhanced safety features and reliability
- Deploying Picarro leak-detection technology to improve response times by identifying potential leaks or other issues faster and more accurately
- Completing more than 12,500 new gas service installations to support residential and business growth
- Upgrading large high-pressure transmission lines to provide safer, more reliable gas service
A Commitment to Affordability
Over the last 16 months, CenterPoint has also worked closely with local stakeholders, community leaders and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to support these vital investments while minimizing the bill impact on our customers. To fund these critical improvements and upgrades, the PUCO approved a rate change of approximately $12 per month for average residential gas customers, or 40 cents per day, beginning with natural gas consumption as of January 12, 2026. Please know that this rate change represents the first change to the distribution base rates since 2018, and all funds are dedicated to supporting the safer and more reliable delivery of natural gas for our 337,000 customers and the communities they call home.
Supporting Our Customers
While such critical investments are vital to serving you, we know that any change in rates, no matter the amount, will have an impact on our customers, their families and businesses. CenterPoint offers financial assistance programs and key resources to support those in need of assistance, including:
