Eligible homeowners can earn incentives for efficient home upgrades

HOUSTON – September 11, 2012 – CenterPoint Energy is now offering up to $5,000 in incentives to eligible homeowners who make qualifying energy-saving home improvements that make homes more comfortable and energy-efficient year-round.

CenterPoint Energy’s new Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program uses a whole-house approach designed to maximize comfort and help reduce energy use in the home. Specially-trained contractors start with a comprehensive Home Energy Assessment to analyze a home’s heating and cooling system and overall energy use. The results are used to provide recommendations that will make the home more efficient and save customers energy and money.

“We’re happy to help our customers by offering this program,” said Jarrett Simon, energy efficiency program implementation manager at CenterPoint Energy. “Our Home Energy Assessment allows a professional building scientist to customize a solution for each homeowner’s needs. They get to choose the combination of upgrades that will offer the greatest energy efficiency and best value. They should notice the difference in their energy usage now and for years to come.”

Upgrades eligible for incentives include:
• Replacement of air conditioning systems
• Insulation improvements
• Duct sealing or replacement
• Building envelope improvements
• Windows
• Water heaters
• Solar screens

Customers can talk to a participating contractor to learn more about the incentives associated with each type of improvement.

The upgrades included in this program can help improve indoor air quality in customer’s homes – especially for those who suffer from seasonal allergies or asthma. The required combustion safety testing associated with the quality assurance aspects of the program also can help assure homeowners that their appliances are working and ventilating properly and at the safest level possible.

The program is open to single-family homeowners in CenterPoint’s electric service territory who have not participated in a previous CenterPoint Energy efficiency program at their current residence. Work must be completed by participating contractors that meet guidelines set by CenterPoint Energy, including employing Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified Building Analysts or Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) Certified Professionals. Prices for the Home Energy Assessment may vary by contractor.
