According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) poor power quality and reliability are estimated to cost the United States economy $56 billion per year. The power quality equipment and services market offers many solutions. We strongly recommend that you consult a professional engineer or qualified power quality consultant to evaluate solutions based on safety, performance and economic payback.
The standards created by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are an excellent source of information to improve power quality. The IEEE is a non-profit technical professional organization with over 360,000 members that creates consensus standards for industrial and commercial power systems. These IEEE publications may help improve power quality issues:
Standard 1100 (Emerald Book) - IEEE Recommended Practice for Powering and Grounding Electronic Equipment
Standard 446 (Orange Book) - IEEE Recommended Practice for Emergency and Standby Power Systems for Industrial and Commercial Applications
Standard 493 (Gold Book) - IEEE Recommended Practice for the Design of Reliable Industrial and Commercial Power Systems
Standard 519 - IEEE Recommended Practices and Requirements for Harmonic Control in Electrical Power Systems
