How the Program Works

Work with the dealer, plumber or retailer of your choice to determine the best high-efficiency natural gas water heater for your home that qualifies for a rebate. Buy and install the water heater in your home between January 1 -
December 31, 2016.

Complete an application. Simply type your information in the interactive fields and then print your completed form. Please review all program guidelines and requirements on back of rebate application.Download Rebate Form

Have your dealer or installer sign the rebate application form.

Attach a copy of your dated sales invoice that shows the detail of the water heater purchased.

Mail us the completed application including required signatures, along with dated sales invoice. Submit all requested paperwork by Dec. 31 in the calendar year of installation.

We'll mail your rebate check within eight weeks of receiving your completed rebate application.
Please note: This rebate offer is only available for residential customers who receive natural gas service from CenterPoint Energy. Rebates are paid on a first-come, first-served basis.
Required Signature
(For the Purchaser, this required signature is the person that is receiving the rebate check. For the Dealer/Plumber or installer, this required signature is from a representative from the company that installed the equipment or the homeowner if self-installed.)
Atmospheric - vent
These are the standard gas water heaters that have been serving millions of homeowners for years. They use room air for combustion and exhaust. The exhaust chimney is installed to a draft hood that sits slightly above the tank. These water heaters use "gravity" (rising warm air) to exhaust combustion byproducts and are vented through the roof. Typically the exhaust vent is connected to the furnace vent and they share the same chimney.
Direct-vent
Direct-vent units use no room air at all. Direct-vent water heaters are particularly good for tight construction because they use outside air versus room air for both combustion and exhaust, so they operate independently of other exhaust systems in the house.
Power-vent
These water heaters are the same as the atmospheric models but with a reengineered exhaust system. This unit offers all the benefits of natural gas, plus flexible installation. It requires no chimney, chase, or flue. Because of the power-assisted exhaust, it can be placed up to 40 feet from where it is vented through a sidewall, making it easy to fit in even the most cramped equipment rooms.
Powered direct-vent
A hybrid, this model combines the features of power- and direct-vent models. It's perfect for airtight construction and offers flexible installation.
Tankless water heaters can be an efficient technology for home water heating, but due to their design, tankless water heaters have high natural gas usage requirements (BTU/hour input) compared to tank-style water heaters. The additional load on our system from tankless water heaters results in undesirable capacity demands during peak daily use periods. We do not offer a rebate on this technology.
Signatures
We require a dated signature from the customer or representative of the company receiving the rebate.

Because tankless water heaters do not have stand-by losses, they are the most efficient way to provide for your home's hot water needs. In addition, tankless units are useful when space is at a premium or when there is a continuous need for hot water.
In a retro-fit situation, it is important to ensure that your home has adequate gas pressure and internal piping to handle the increased peak gas demand on the home's system. Indirect water heaters offer a more efficient choice for most homes, even though they require a storage tank. An indirect water heater uses the main furnace or boiler to heat a fluid that’s circulated through a heat exchanger in the storage tank. The energy stored by the water tank allows the boiler to turn off and on less often, which saves energy. Therefore, an indirect water heater is used with a high-efficiency boiler and well-insulated tank can be the least expensive means of providing hot water.
Also, these integrated or combination water heating systems not only can work with forced air systems but also with hydronic and radiant floor heating systems. |
