Sewer Lateral Information
For the safety of our customers, and in order to comply with all regulations, CenterPoint Energy's contractors will locate sewer laterals in an area before infrastructure improvement projects begin. For more information about this state requirement, click here. Sewer laterals are the lines that connect a building to the city's sanitary system or to a private septic system.
Sewer laterals are mapped to avoid the potential hazard known as cross-bores. Cross-bores occur when a gas line is drilled through a sewer lateral. If a clog is discovered in a sewer, and a drill is used to clear the blockage, the drill may damage the gas line and cause a dangerous gas leak. Several contractors are authorized by CenterPoint to perform this important safety measure and may be seen in your area in the coming weeks. It is possible that you will be contacted for access to your property to complete this work. In that case, please ensure all plumbing access points, such as drains and cleanouts, are accessible. Sewer verifications are at no cost to you.
Employees of authorized sub-contractors will have CenterPoint Energy identification cards. Do not allow anyone inside your home without seeing identification. For more information about contractors authorized to complete this work, click here.
