Crews from CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, have installed natural gas mains on the project’s selected streets south of Wabasha Street W. The crews are currently installing natural gas main south on Wabasha Street W. and then will install on 4th and 5th Streets.

The crews’ progress is due in part to the rocky terrain where the crews are working. The crews plan to continue working throughout the summer or early fall with main installations and service line connections.

Any changes in the schedule will be coordinated between CenterPoint Energy and the City of St. Peter.

5/30/2019
In 2018, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, installed natural gas mains and service lines between County Road 5 and College Avenue and between 4th Street N. and 7th Street N. This year they are performing final natural gas work in this area.

In approximately mid-June, Michels Corporation will begin installing natural gas mains and connecting natural gas service lines to the installed mains along selected streets south of County Road 5.

CenterPoint Energy is continuing to work with the City of St. Peter on the project’s duration. We appreciate your patience.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, are continuing to work in the southern half of the project. Below are the construction details:

  • For approximately two weeks, the crews will continue to connect the natural gas service lines to the installed mains.
  • Afterward the crews will begin installing natural gas mains in the southern half of the project. In addition, they will perform work at a regulator station between 7th Street N. and Washington Avenue N. north of Broadway Avenue. The duration of this work will most likely last for a few more months. This is to be determined based on the crews’ progress, the rocky terrain in St. Peter, and agreements between CenterPoint Energy and the City of St. Peter.

Where, when, and why is CenterPoint Energy performing construction?

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, will be replacing the natural gas system in the St. Peter neighborhood along selected streets between Madison Street W. and Stones Way, and between 8th Street N. and Front Street N. Crews from Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will restore the areas affected by CenterPoint Energy’s construction—typically the soft surface areas and the street. Construction will begin in the week of October 22, continue through late Fall 2018, resume in Spring 2019 and finish in Summer 2019.

In areas where pipework is completed in 2018, Q3 Contracting will work behind Michels Corporation, restoring the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s construction. If restoration is not finished in 2018 because the weather is unconducive for permanent restoration, Q3 Contracting will temporarily restore the hard and soft surfaces affected by Michels Corporation’s construction. Q3 Contracting will return in the spring and summer 2019 construction season to permanently restore these areas.

For examples of permanent and temporary restoration, please see our Restoration Practices and Updates page.

What are the estimated traffic impacts?
  • Local businesses and residents will have access to their properties.
  • Construction will occur in segments along the construction route, rather than all at once. Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.
