St. Louis Park - Aquila Neighborhood - Project Updates

Crews from Michels Corporation have been moving inside meters outside and replacing and/or reconnecting the service lines to the new main in the Aquila Neighborhood. This week, they will finish the service line and meter work on 34th ½ Street W. and are working on Aquila, Boone, Cavell, Utah, Virginia, and Yukon Avenues S. In the next week or two, they will begin working on Zinran Avenues S.


Q3 Contracting will follow Michels Corporation’s routes. Although they plan to permanently restore the affected areas, they may temporarily restore if the weather isn’t conducive for permanent restoration. This will include asphalt on hard surfaces and winter erosion control blankets on soft surfaces. In spring 2024, the crews will return for permanent restoration.

From late August into approximately Friday, September 8, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, has been and will continue to replace all the natural gas mains within the project’s routes. This includes the following: Utah Avenue S., Virginia Avenue S., 34th ½ Street W., Yukon Avenue S., Zinran Avenue S., Aquila Avenue S., Boone Avenue S., Sunset Ridge Road, and Cavell Lane S.


During this time, there will be no parking restrictions in this area. The only exception will be a road closure of Yukon Avenue S. between 35th and 36th Streets W. from Tuesday, September 5 to Friday, September 8. During this time, residents will have access to and from their driveways. Parking will be restricted on both sides of Yukon Avenue S. in this area.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

For several months beginning on Monday, August 21, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work on select streets in the Aquila Neighborhood in St. Louis Park. Equix Integrity will update our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. A natural gas contractor will replace a natural gas main, move inside meters to the outside of homes, and replace or reconnect service lines as needed. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by the gas crew’s work. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
