What will CenterPoint Energy be doing?

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will begin construction on the new natural gas pipe along Penn Avenue S. in Richfield on October 3, 2016.

The construction is expected to take approximately three or four weeks. The crews are installing about 2,900 feet of natural gas distribution main along Penn Avenue S. from W. 62nd Street (Highway 62) to W. 66th Street, in addition to W. 64th Street from Russell Avenue S. to Penn Avenue S. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but the crews will be closing the eastern northbound lane and the eastern sidewalk for the duration of construction.

What does this mean for residents?

CenterPoint Energy will also be connecting about 35 gas service lines to the new main. Existing gas service lines will be connected to the gas main. (A gas service line is a small pipe connecting the resident’s gas to the main line in the street.) Customers will experience a short disruption of gas service.

If a resident’s property is disturbed, CenterPoint Energy will be responsible for restoring the hard and soft surfaces affected by construction. This is at no cost to the customer or resident of the construction area.
