What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing natural gas pipeline main in Richfield on Wednesday, September 27. Project construction is expected to last until late November 2017. (Frequent updates will be posted on this "Project Status" page.) Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin installing natural gas pipeline along the northbound curb side of Nicollet Avenue S. between W. 67th Street and W. 63rd Street. Ongoing road construction activity is also occurring on W. 66th Street. For more information, please visit the City of Richfield’s website under “66th Street Reconstruction Project.”

Parking and lane restrictions are required in areas where construction activity is occurring and is necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Nicollet Avenue S. between W. 63rd and W. 67th Streets during construction. Eastbound W. 64th, W. 65th, W. 66th and W. 67th Streets from Nicollet Avenue S. will be closed at different times to support pipeline work through the intersection. Detour signs will be posted on site, leading drivers back to each road via 1st Avenue S.

Construction will happen in two phases:

  • Phase 1 is installing the natural gas distribution main.
  • Phase 2 is restoring the areas affected by construction--typically the utility easement, the street, and the customer's yard.
