Project Status - Bloomington - Nicollet Avenue S.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy have finished repair work on the transmission pipe along Nicollet Avenue S. between W. 89th Street and w. 98th Street.
Nicollet Avenue S. has been restored by crews from Q3, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy. The traffic barriers have been removed from the site.

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are excavating two additional sites for immediate repair along the Nicollet Avenue S. project. The estimated end date remains to be Tuesday, December 6.
The excavations are located just south of the intersections on W. 89th Street and W. 91st Street. The traffic control remains the same: The northbound lanes on Nicollet Avenue S. from W. 89th Street to W. 98th Street will remain closed with two-way traffic shifted to the southbound lanes. Today, crews from Q3, a CenterPoint Energy contractor in charge of traffic control signs, are placing barriers at W. 89th Street.
The other information regarding project details, noted below, also remains the same. CenterPoint Energy wants to thank the residents and customers for their patience.
What is CenterPoint Energy doing?
Crews from CenterPoint Energy will be performing repair work on the transmission pipe along Nicollet Avenue S. between W. 90th Street and W. 98th Street starting December 1 and ending December 6, which will include the restoration of the areas affected by construction.
This immediate repair work is required due to inspection activity performed in September and October of this year. It will include five areas of excavation along the following intersections on Nicollet Avenue S.: W. 90th Street, W. 92nd Street, W. 95th Street, W. 96th Street and W. 98th Street. Multiple crews will be working around the clock in order to meet the timeline noted above. In addition, the crews will be working simultaneously on all five excavations.
What does this mean for residents and traffic?
Beginning December 1, the crews will place traffic control signs on Nicollet Avenue S. During the construction, both the northbound lanes will be closed. Traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes and two-way traffic will be maintained. The crews expect to work the weekend of December 3 to 4 if necessary for the W. 98th Street intersection to complete the work as efficiently as possible.

Crews from CenterPoint Energy finished inspecting the transmission pipe on Nicollet Avenue S. in Bloomington. The inspection took place between W. 82nd Street and W. 98th Street, beginning on September 14 and ending today on October 24.
The crews are now restoring the excavations where they had placed the smart PIG (Pipeline Inspection Gauge) into the transmission pipe. Restoration is expected to take a few days, finishing roughly within the week of October 24. CenterPoint Energy wants to thank the residents and customers for their patience.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy finished inspecting the first of two sections of the transmission pipe on Nicollet Avenue from W. 86th Street to W. 98th Street in Bloomington. Restoration is being completed on the areas affected by construction.
The crews are preparing for the final inspection, which will take place on Nicollet Avenue from W. 82nd Street to W. 86th Street. They plan to begin the inspection today on Wednesday, October 19, and finish by about Friday, October 21.
The crews will restore any areas affected by construction according to the condition prior to construction.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy finished inspecting one section of the transmission pipe on Nicollet Avenue S. yesterday on October 13 from W. 92nd Street to W. 98th Street in Bloomington.
The smart PIG (Pipeline Inspection Gauge) tool was removed from the pipeline on October 13 and is being prepared to inspect the next section of the pipe today on October 14. The tool will inspect the pipe over the weekend from W. 86th Street to W. 93rd Street and is expected to finish this section on Sunday afternoon of October 16.
The final part of the inspection will happen from W. 82nd Street to W. 86th Street. The crews plan to prepare the tool on Monday, October 17. They will launch the tool on Tuesday, October 18.
For the weekend of October 7 to 9, crews from CenterPoint Energy will not be working on the Nicollet Avenue S. project in Bloomington. They will keep safety barriers around the open excavations along Nicollet Avenue S. between W. 92nd Street and W. 98th Street. These barriers are expected to stay up until about Thursday, October 13.
Beginning Monday, October 10, the crews will start the routine maintenance on Nicollet Avenue S. beginning at the intersection of W. 93rd Street going south to W. 98th Street. All other information regarding the excavation, traffic control and proposed schedule remains the same from September 30.
Two-way traffic and access to residents’ driveways will be maintained. The second and final parts of the inspection will take place respectively from W. 86th Street to W. 93rd Street, and from W. 82nd Street to W. 86th Street.
The crews will begin the routine maintenance in the week of October 10, starting at the intersection of W. 93rd Street going south to W. 98th Street. The excavations that the crews started on September 14 will allow the crews to place the smart PIG (Pipeline Inspection Gauge) tools approximately every 1,000 feet along the pipe to inspect the pipe’s condition.
Traffic control will remain in place from W. 82nd Street to W. 98th Street, still maintaining two-way traffic and access for residents’ driveways. When the crews finish Nicollet Avenue S. from W. 93rd Street to W. 98th Street, they will lift that section of traffic control.
The second part of the inspection will take place between W. 93rd Street and W. 86th Street, and the final part will take place between W. 86th Street and W. 82nd Street. The inspection is expected to end near the end of October 2016.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy are on schedule with their work on the Nicollet Avenue S. project in Bloomington. So far, the crews have nearly completed the excavation work on Nicollet Avenue S.
Currently the crews have placed traffic control along Nicollet Avenue S. from W. 82nd Street to W. 98th Street, maintaining two-way traffic. The crews have also temporarily restored the hard surfaces in front of Kennedy High School.
The crews are expected to finish their construction in about mid-October. Residents' driveways will remain open during construction, and the homes' gas lines will remain active.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy are excavating holes near the following addresses along Nicollet Avenue S.: 8235, 8347, 8509, 8633, 8811, 8921, the 9100 block (east of 9044), 9251, 9307 and 9417. The crews will be excavating near Kennedy High School approximately September 29 or 30, with traffic control being set up around 3:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. after school gets out on September 28.
There is two-way traffic control from W. 82nd Street to E. 95th Street. Jersey barriers and steel plates have been set in place to protect the open excavations. As mentioned below, residents' driveways will remain open during construction, and the homes' gas lines will remain active.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy are on schedule to begin the Nicollet Avenue S. project on Wednesday, September 14, when they plan installing a stopper fitting located at W. 93rd Street along Nicollet Ave. Traffic control sign are set in place. Two-way traffic will be maintained as the crews close off the right lanes of Nicollet Avenue S. close to W. 93rd Street.
After W. 93rd Street is complete, the crews will install another stopper fitting at the intersection of Nicollet Avenue S. and W. 84th Street. The same traffic plans will apply.
CenterPoint Energy will continue to send updates on the progress of the Nicollet Avenue S. project, which is expected to continue until approximately mid-October 2016.
